What exercise equipment is better: treadmill, elliptical, or exercise bike?

I'm not the most fit of all people but I have been losing weight by watching what I eat and watching my portions; I now need to put some type of physical fitness in my weight lose now; what exercise equipment is better: treadmill, elliptical or exercise bike? I want something that I can use at home; I feel better when I'm doing this type of stuff by myself; I want something that I can use to help me lose weight on butt, hips, stomach, waist and thighs; any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!

  2. Contratulations! What you buy totally depends upon which of the 3 you believe that you think you will enjoy and use the most. I would be more inclined to purchase an ellipticall- you can do your walking outside. The elliptical uses more muscle groups and as a result burns few more calories per minute. A bike isolates on the quads and little else.
  3. I would say elliptical. It takes less space than a treadmill. It costs about half as much as a treadmill 1500 vs maybe 3 or 4 thousand. It is balanced so it uses no electrical power so also less operating costs power and repairs and you can work out if the power goes out. You can get a good overall workout cardio, total leg and butt and arms. It does'nt pound such as if you are running on treadmill. It is an indoor activity - if I am going to run or bike I want to go outdoors. The last one I would buy is the bike. Bike mostly works quads and I have found it can be hard on the back.
  4. The Elliptical definitely burns more calories but why not try all of them in 10 pr 15 minute intervals. I like to use a few different machines while working out so I don't get bored with it.
  5. Elliptical or bike. The elliptical is a bit better because you get low joint impact, but still get a load bearing exercise to build bone mass. The bike in no impact and will but calories faster than the treadmill would.
  6. It all depends on what you are trying to do. Actually, I think the best one is the one that you think you will like using best. I would actually suggest getting a real bike and riding as much as possible. To me that is the most fun way to exercise.
