Please explain to me why people are so fussy about cosmetics being made in China?

I love my make-up and often read makeupalley.com and other sites for reviews before I take the plunge and buy the product. I do this to save time instead of trying an item that say, may not be long-lasting.. and then having to return it. Anyways, I've noticed that some people will say a product is bad just because it is made in China or will write a negative review and say something like, "I knew this product would be bad because it's made in China!!" I have several lipsticks and shadows (and other items) that are "made in China" ranging from brands such as Stila and Smashbox to Coastal Scents. Will somebody please explain to me why people automatically assume when make-up is made in China, it will automatically be bad?? I've experienced "bad" make-up that was made in France, the US, AND China so please tell me why people seem to only think make-up that is made in China will be terrible.. Thanks =)

  1. I had bad makeup from major brands and better with the local drug stores and I can say that is a personal choice and your skin conditions too that have a factor and what they put in the product.
  2. Its the association that goods from China will be cheap & poor maybe this was the case once but it takes a while to lose a bad image
  3. my hubby is big on America not relying too much on imports. almost everything in the stores is from China. you hardly ever see something made from U.S.A. anymore.
  4. That's just a stereotype. Most items that people use in the US are made from China so how could they say that cosmetics from China are bad? That's just ignorance.
  5. Most of the stuff that are in the beauty stores are made in China and people mostly fuss about the stuff that's made in China because it doesn't live up to the price or cost of what they are willing to pay for beauty product. They believe that its cheap just because the price is lower than what they would pay for a product in say Sephora. Most of the stuff you probably have is made in China anyways. Overall, just because something is made in China, doesn't mean that it necessarily is bad. Drugstore makeup is cheap, but a lot of them work just as well as a similiar product that cost twice the amount. A lot of people do say its bad since they just have a stereotypical notion that about the idea of cheap labor in China, so everything must be cheap or bad as well.
