- Well, it matters what are you are intending to do. If you are just going to be doing word processing and excel, than all you need is a barebones system, like a low end core duo processor or even a pentium 4, 1 gig of RAM, either an integrated graphics card or a low end one like a GeForce 6800 or something, and storage. If you know you are going to be doing lots of work, maybe storing huge amounts of data, or pictures, etc, go with 500gb of storage. Otherwise, go with about 250gb. And thats about it

- well essentially if you are not going to use many programs, but only excel, powerpoint, publisher, etc, then you can get a lower end pc with penitum d for about 400-800$ you would need 1gb of ram and a descent graphics car(i think 128mb or 256mb would be sufficient) My reccomendation would be to get a computer with a core 2 duo processor. this would bump the price up to 800-1500$ but it is truley much faster. you could get 1-2gb's of ram, a 256 mb video card(atx raedon)and a 250-500mb hard drive. my reccomendation to you would be to buy a dell. the best deal would be a dell dimension with a 2.13 ghz processor core 2 duo, 2gb of ram, a 250 gb hard drive, a 256 mb video (card256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache)which would come with a 20" monitor. this computer would end up about 1000$, a very reasonably priced computer for its specs. if you want a lower or higher end computer you should visit the dell website and find one under small buisiness. you can very easily buy a 250gb external hard drive for 100$ on various sites such as amazon.com, tigerdirect.com, and many more. these are hard drives that are plugged in to your computer via 2.0 usb port(can vary from product) and serve as an extra memory stick of a sort.
