Is it possible for canadians to buy american stocks?

Hi, I already have canadian stock (tsx) but is it also possible for me to buy american stock (nasdaq, amex, nyse etc.) and if so, how ?

1. Ask your broker if they can handle it for you. If not, contact an American broker about opening an account. You'd have some tax hassles, but it can be done.
2. Yes. All major Canadian brokers give access to US equity market. Try TD Waterhouse, RBC Direct Investing or any of the brokerage unit of the big banks. You buy US stocks the same way you would a Canadian stock. If you have a cash account, you need to have your funds in USD.
3. Yes. Just ask your broker if they do so.
