What is the best and low cost exercise equipment out there?

So far every treadmill that my family owns keep breaking. Even the elliptical broke but I am not sure it broke because of our weight or if it is because my brother keeps tempering with it. I think the equipment is overused. Does it have any exercise equipment that could handle the pressure of four people working out on it?

1. When you're buying it, ask the salesperson for something that would be more for industrial use like in gyms as these are made for higher volumes of workouts. You might have to go to an outlet for gym equipment as most places like sears or such sell the stuff that is meant to only be used once a day fairly lightly
2. Why don't you just go running outside? Its free and it will never break.
