Which bank stock looks the best for the future? If you had to buy into financials, which would you buy, and why?
I am 19 yo. and have $10,000. What is the best mutual fund for me to invest in to get the best return? I am 19 years old and a college student. I won't need this money any time soon and am just looking to get in early with my money to start building up my portfolio and start building up my financials. Seeing as though I won't need this money anytime soon, I am looking towards stock mutual funds seeing as I can withstand flucuations in the market as long as it gets me a great return in the long run. I hear index funds such as Vanguard 500 index are a very good option to start out with. Just want to get some opinions as to what I should do with my money to allow it to grow and work for me. Don' really want to stick it in a 401K or any retirement accounts as I may need money from it to buy a home in 5-10 years and don't feel like taking that 10% hit to do that. So whats my best option growth wise and tax wise? Thanks for your help!!
I'm buying a condo, but the building's financials/board are questionable at best.? The condo I'm purchasing is nice, needs repairs and is a good price. The seller and I are negotiating things that will be fixed, but the financial workings of the building and how the board operates are dubious to me. When I received their financial information it didn't seem very professional, and I'm not even sure if info from a CPA exists. I haven't signed a contract, but my skepticism is making my wary. What should I do to get assurances that my investment will be okay? I should also mention that this is in New York City, where laws are different than other parts of the country.
Is long term treasury mutual funds a good buy now? or is there a better mutual fund sector to invest in taking into account: the bailout of financials, slight chance of deflation, and ever increasing debt. the mess is still not over with so i want to position myself for the short term of 3 months as we get ourselves out of this financial mess. whats the best return of mutual fund types because i do not want to stay in money markets anymore and want to work my way to increasing my risk into the market.

What is the best way, to start a conversation involving finances with my boyfriend? Okay. well, he's more than just my boyfriend technically. He's more like my fiancee/husband. Since he said he'd propose to me on our anniversary next year. ANYWAY. Here recently....we haven't been talking as much as we used to. I live in Minnesota (unfortunately) and he still lives in Arkansas. Where I used to live. We talk, almost every night via webcams. And, also here recently, it seems like every time we talk somehow, our conversations turn towards finances. My most hated subject to talk about....well. Long story short, in this economy and everything, my family isn't doing too well. We're barely making it. But overall....we are doing just fine. My boyfriend, his family....is doing okay. Much better off than mine. Example: their house months rent is $1000. Our rent, $475. There you go. But what has me bothered so much, is that when I talk to him...about moving back to Arkansas, he always asks "with what money?" and I say, well, next year with our income tax refund. He doesn't believe me that we can make it. When I know when can. It just, he seems like my family is poorer than we really are. Like we can just barely live on with what we got. The other night when we were talking, I was drinking Nesquick Strawberry Milk. And he asked me something along the lines of...."with what money did you buy that with?" something...I can't remember. It just seems like, with everything I told him about my family, and our financials, he seems like, we can't buy ANYthing at all. Because we have no money. Which isn't true....and I guess that was my mistake from the get go. Because if I can't even buy Nesquick without him asking what money did I have for that? I don't know. It just makes me feel like crap. And very poor. In a way...if that makes sense. He just. I guess....I need to talk to him. Some night. And clear the air. Because I just feel like, I can't buy anything without asking him if it's alright or something. And if I buy something even remotely expensive...I know he disapproves it. Well, not really disapproves it. I don't know. And...in a way, I don't want to talk to him about all this....because I don't want to have a fight, or argument, or anything with him. And I don't want him to feel like crap, or anything like that. But maybe just talking to him....will make it better. The real main thing that has bothered....is, I want to move back down to Arkansas. With my family next year, when we get our taxes back. He doesn't believe me, that we'll have the funds to come back. And the ONLY reason, I want to go back, is 99% him. And his lack of faith...that we can make it makes me sad. It just really dissapoints me. Because I know we can make it back to AR with our income taxes. I just don't want to go back down to AR, and the first thing I hear from him is something like, "well, can we survive this month? with food, bills, etc?" I absolute loathe finances. Everything is about finances with him now. And if my family can afford it, or if I can afford it or not. And I hate that. So. I am sorry, that this is so long...I just, wanted to talk to somebody. Rant. I guess. And don't get me wrong, I love my boyfriend to death. We're both 20 years old, we've had our differences, our arguments, deep talks, everything it seems like. We plan on marriage, and having a family sometime in the future. I mean, he is the one for me. I just wish he had more faith in my family. And not...worry so much, or question our finances. So please, give your thoughts/inputs/whatever on this. And if you've managed to read through all that, and comment, I do appreciate your time. (: - Brittany.
Are You Buying Stocks Like Warren Buffet? I bought GE and I bought STLD (steel Dynamics). Warren Buffet says that now is a good time to buy stocks. However, here is the stocks he's buying.... BANKS and INSURANCE companies. Warren Buffet says to invest only in things you know and Banks, Insurance and Financials is what Buffet knows best. So no wonder. But what do you think of his recent buys ? General Electric: [GE 19.87 0.24 (+1.22%) ] Goldman Sachs: [GS 118.44 4.14 (+3.62%) ] NRG Energy: [NRG 24.36 5.03 (+26.02%) ] Sanofi-Aventis: [SNY 30.75 1.49 (+5.09%) ] Burlington Northern: [BNI 83.21 3.11 (+3.88%) ] Kraft: [KFT 29.53 0.91 (+3.18%) ] US Bancorp: [USB 30.45 -0.10 (-0.33%) ] WellPoint: [WLP 41.20 0.90 (+2.23%) ] UnitedHealth: [UNH 24.82 0.43 (+1.76%) ]
I'm thinking of buying a small business.....need pointers? I'm 20 years old, just graduated from college with 2 business degrees, and have very little money in the bank. I would like to buy a small business (I don't have a particular one in mind). now obviously I'd have to get financing, and i know the basics, such as going over the financials, and coming up with a business plan. My question is, did anybody else go through something similar and can you give me some pointers? What is the best way to do things? What are the steps involved? Do I need to hire lawyers or accountants? Where's the best place to get financing? What kind of governemnt paperwork do I have to fill out? I'm very aware that I may be too young and inexperianced to do this but I would like to learn if it's doable. Sam I DO have 2 business degrees, one in Hr and the other in CIS, I know a lot about running a business but not a lot about buying one. While i don't have a lot of money I CAN afford not to take money out of the business for 6 months to a year. My dream is not to start a certain type of company but to own several......in which case i need to elarn how to do it.
0% Down on Hotel? Hello, I am looking to buy a hotel in Washington, DC that is for sale. We are also considering a few other properties in simliar large cities with solid net operating income and good annual occupancy (60% or higher). My family has started a coporation last month in NY and we have no assets or income flow. We are looking to find a hotel loan for 6.5% for 85% of the cost and then find a second loan for the remaining 15%. We have considered issueing stock instead of a second loan. We are worried that if we use this method, someone would buy more than 50% of the stock and take control of our coporation and aquired assets. What would someone recommend be the best way to aquire our first hotel? We believe that this will be the toughest purchase and the rest will be easier after we have established creditability. All the prospective hotels have been in existence since at least 1998 and have all financials. Thanks for your help, lemonpiesaregood

Im about to get fired what preparations should I take? I work as a Customer Service Rep. My former Super who was just fired 3 weeks ago put me on a performance plan. This was done maybe 2 months ago. Its no secret that she had it in for me. So basically im going to be fired for not meeting expectations. Today I was bought in to the office by the Manager for call monitoring score. They want me to score a 95 average. Im currently at 91.5 average. She went over the calls and said that she could terminate me now but she is giving me one more week. Yea one week. They are monitoring 10 calls a week instead of the normal 10 a month since im on this improvement plan. Just before my Sup put me on final she kept making idle threats in a joking way. At that point i decide to look for a new job this was maybe 3 months ago. A month later she follow with her threats. I have been preparing myself mentally for this. I have consulted several peers that told me if I get fired for this i stand a very good chance of obtaining unemployment as long as just keep trying my best. Of course a week doesnt allow me to get any of my financials ready in case i dont get unemployment. Any and all advice appreciated. Mike S this is something i would of probably done 5 years ago. However in this economy it can take several months to gain employment. I spoke to a few peers and as awful as it sounds i stand a better of chance of getting fired this way i have income. I only have about 2k in bank which wont last long. I do not have a degree so it will be tougher. I was hoping that I was able to land a new job before it will get to this point.
is smoking 5 cigarettes a day that bad? ok so for the past 3 months i was smoking a pack a day. first thing that got me concerned was financials at the least pack a day is $170 a month here. that's almost twice my cell phone bill. i started developing a cough (smoker's cough i guess) , i would have customers at work asking if i was sick etc... so i spent 4 days not smoking at all and it wasnt too hard seeing i was only smoking a pack a day for 3 months, but could i just ration out 5 cigarettes a day without having to worry too much about health problems. like i bought a pack today and pulled 5 cigarretes and put the other in a bag and i plan on staying strong. i know the best would be to quit completely. any smokers/ ex smokers have any input?

Can you help me find Circuit City and Best Buy financial data? More specifically I'm looking for the sales data for their firedog and geek squad services. What I need is how much of sales does each company's respective service make up. For example, how much of Circuit City's/Best Buy's sales for 2007 were from Firedog/Geek Squad. Also, if it's possible to find just the financial data for geek squad and firedog by themselves I could really use that as well.

What is the best notebook computer to buy? I took my old laptop in to Best Buy today because it had stopped booting. It is a few years old and they said it is more cost efficeient to buy a new one than to put money into the old one. So, now i'm trying to choose a new notebook computer. I am a teacher but this is my home computer. I want it for music, picture and video playing and editing, School related things (word processing, powerpoint) and internet as well as my financial records etc. I do not want a Mac because it will not be compatible with my computers at school. Any suggestions? What should I be looking for?
Why buy financials? The financial stocks are getting pretty cheap, and everyone is trying to pick a bottom, but I don't see any reason to buy financials, what with the rest of the market being down so much. When financials do finally recover the rest of the market will bounce back with them, and there are a lot of great companies in other sectors that will bounce back 50% or more when financials start to recover. So isn't it smarter to put your money in sectors that are solid, rather than try to pick the select financial companies that are going to come through the current mortgage crisis unscathed. It seems to me that you get just as much upside without the uncertainty of wondering what the next shoe to drop will be in the financials.
Buy car with cash, credit card or lease - which is best? I am going to buy a car that is 2 years old and about $15k. Is it better to lease it or buy in cash/credit card. I have never leased a car and not sure if it has any advantages, judging by some websites i have visited leasing seems to be daunting, easier to buy in cash. But is this a wise financial move?
Where is the best place to buy City/Municipal Bonds? Which ones are the best to buy? I've been reading a lot about these as being a relatively stable way of backing up an investment portfolio. However, I have never once figured out how to actually buy these, and/or where to look. If possible, please give me specific examples of where you buy them, or have seen them for sale ideally online. Please don't just say "broker" or "google it". I've already done that, and all I can find are glossy overviews by overpaid financial analysts.
Would you buy financial stocks now and give your reasons? I have bought some, but friends say I must be crazy. My thinking is "surely the major banks are too important to be allowed to fail"? But then, look at Bear Sterns!

Where can I find the best information on annuities so I can make an informed purchase and where should I buy? My husband and I just fired our financial advisor. Over the last 8 years this advisor who charged us fees had lost us approximately $1.2 million in the value of our account. We were in a diversified portfolio of about 8 mutual funds plus 2 bond funds (medium & long term) and some adjustments have been made along the way. We were told and were presented evidence back in the mid 90's that there had never been a rolling 10 year period where stock prices had negative returns. Except now. We have now decided to put our money where everyone else goes for protection, insurance companies! Many insurance companies have been around for over 100 years. Yes, some do fail but compared to everything else out there they are very safe. We want to put our money into annuities which pay interest each year. We also understand annuities are available that pay interest based on a stock index. Also, in 1 year we want to begin to receive a fixed monthly income for life from an immediate annuity.
How do I read a company's financials information before buying shares? Assuming that I find an attractive stock with potential to go up (based on past performance), how do I read that company's financial information (ie. cash flow, debt, assets, dividends) to decide if the company's doing well? For example, I've read several times that X company is a good buy because the price/share is low but they have X million in cash and very little debt. I usually go to Yahoo Finance for any company stock information. How can I read the Financial section and interpret all that stuff? Thanks.

Has anyone had problems with customer service from Best Buy/Geek Squad? I bought a computer from Best Buy in March of 2008. I began to experience many problems with my computer, and I took it into the geek squad at Best Buy. They told me that it was a Dell issue, so I contacted Dell, and they explained that it was a Geek Squad problem. I got the run around from them until finally Geek Squad took my computer in July of 2008. I did not hear back from them as to the status of my repair until early August, and they told me my computer had been received, but they did not have the parts, so they were ordering them. Then, they began to give me different stories. Geek Squad proceeded to tell me that my computer had been damaged in shipping, they lost it, found it, and that they could not fix it, so they trashed it. I am a college student, and I had been without my computer since the summer. I explained to them that they needed to replace my computer that they trashed, because I HAD to have a computer for my classes. No one would contact me back as to what to do, or if and when I would be recieving a new computer, so I went and purchased a new laptop. Finally they got back to me almost in October and told me that I could come in and get a new one. When they told me this, I explained that I did not want the computer because they damaged/lost/trashed it and it had taken so long for them to contact me that I had to purchase a new one due to their piss poor customer service. I proceeded to ask them for my money back for the computer, because it was brand new when I brought it in. They gave me another run around to multiple departments and people saying that someone would resolve it. I heard back from no one, so around Christmas I went into the store, brought my information, e-mails from geek squad and a receipt to the manager Mike Collins (Texarkana, TX) He apologized and told me that he would have it taken care of immediately. He took all of our information and said he would send it all to the corporate office. I never heard from anyone, so I came back to the store at the end of January and he had lost the information and never sent it. I then called Best Buy customer service and they told me that if I faxed them a letter stating my exactly problem with all of the information from geek squad related to my problem that it would be taken care of. I received an e-mail from HSBC, Best Buy's financial department two days ago saying to call them because they needed additional information. I called HSBC and they told me that it was not their issue, and connected me to Best Buy customer service department. Once I was on the phone with Best Buy, they had no idea what I was talking about. I have been getting POOR customer service from day one with everyone remotely related to Best Buy. Not only did they take forever to ship my laptop, but they lost it, found it damaged, and then they trashed it. My question is, has anyone had any problems with Best Buy like this, or even any Geek Squad/ Customer service problems, if so I would love to hear your stories please.

Does it make financial sense to buy a new car? I am currently driving a big old car which I enjoy (1990 Mercedes 300 SE), but its fuel economy is half of what it could be these days, it has no airbags, and I usually need to spend a bout $500 a month fixing something. Now, yesterday, I took this amazing little car for a test drive (2005 Mitsubishi Colt, haha, I know, sounds ridiculous) and fell totally in love with it. They want $10.000 for it. Would it be silly to buy it and trade the Merc? I'm not sure how I feel about giving it away, but its repairs are killing me slowly.

I want to buy a double decker bus for a road trip around Europe, where do I start? To celebrate my 21st birthday, I'm going to get a double decker bus, install beds in the top and a living area in the bottom, then travel around Europe in it with some friends. The thing is, there are only 2 double deckers on eBay at the moment, which are already too expensive, and I don't know where else to look to buy one. My financial limit is about £2000, but I'd prefer it were closer to £1000, as I've obviously got to do it up. I don't care what condition it's in, as long as it runs and would be OK to live in for two months.
