I want to do tech reviews and unboxings...etc. But how do I get the products.? I see a few people on youtube doing tech reviews and unboxings and they do a really good job. I familiar with light video editing and I want to do the best reviews on youtube. But the only problem is...some of these guys are putting up new review videos on every new gadget that comes out...my question is...how do they get these products to review. I know they just cant be buying these new computers and gadgets straight out the pocket. How do I actually get these products so I can give the best review on youtube. I have wonderful ideas on how to get the most views on youtube but I cant afford to buy every new tech gadget that comes out. So again, how to I get the products to me so I can review them.

Can Cell-Tech Hardcore Pro series be dangerous? I have never taken any creatine only protein , and i have just ordered a 6lb tube of Grape cell tech. I was just thinking if it was dangerous? I know it has a high amount of glucose sugar in it used to supposedly trap water in the muscles along with the creatine. One of the question i had is could this product make you become a diabetic in the future due to the high amount of glucose? Also what are the other risks? Also feel free to post any reviews thanks.

I need a video camera to replace my Flip? Hi, I make video reviews of tech products and applications, but I decided that I want to take this hobby to the next level, and invest in something more than my dad's old Flip. I definitely want something that can record in 720p, 1080 isn't really necessary for stuff like this, but if it can do it for a decent price I won't turn it down of course. I'm looking for something nice and simple like the Flip, in terms of press record and go, transfer to computer simply, and cheapness. I don't want to see anything too much more expensive than this, I'm not some millionaire that can just go around and buy random $1000 dollar video cameras for YouTube, y'know? ;) I don't know much about video recording and the like, but I know that my Flip doesn't have any kind of auto focus, which is a major problem when it comes to trying to show off an app or some text on the screen of a tablet or phone. I think that I want image stabilization, unless if someone can explain to me a reason NOT to want it... If it comes with a tripod that's also a plus, It's hard to review something like a Galaxy Tab with one hand :) Also, as a side note, I currently use Windows Movie Maker for minor editing, but if anyone can recommend some better free video editing software, I would be open to give it a try! I should have said earlier, I will only buy something that records to a hard drive or card of some sort.
I would like to be Tech Sponsored? Ok, hey everyone! If i wanted to start reviewing technology items such as computers, cameras, evectrical stuff like that, what are the odds that i could get companies to sponsor me in a word, so that i could get sent free products, review them, then send them back. I want to start putting video reviews on reviews, then when i have enough subscribers i would like to make a website, and stream live 24/7 in my technology full room as well as stream live doing my reviews and unboxing my new technology. So at this point, how would i go about trying to get companies to allow me to review their products. Thanks, David.
Where to purchase ET18K karaoke machine in the Toronto area? My wife is looking for the Enter Tech 18K model which seems to be quite good? I have no idea about these things. I can't find where it is sold and can't find any reviews on the product. She likes the fact that it seems easy to use. Any advice or reviews would be appreciated. And any stores where to purchase the product as well. I think it was around $400 but some online show $320 but that would have to ship from the USA and have customs costs. thanks
How to get latest content for your blog? Pure Creatine or Cell-tech Creatine? I have been working out for almost 1 month now and the results are great but slow. I wanted to take my body to the next level. I've applied to Lifetime Gym and planning to go there 6 days a week for working out and whatnot. The other stuff I've found out about bulking up is this thing called creatine and I was amazed about this steroid-like powder. I am a quite a big guy, I'm 200lbs and I only stand 5'4. Which creatine do you think would be the best for me? PS:I've read that cell tech has some other stuff on their creatine that's why it's so damn expensive but I'm confused because some of the reviews said that you can see the results in a week. Another Question: I know I'm a big guy and I was wondering, Would I burn fats while using creatine and replace it with muscles? Oh and if you know a way more better product than the ones I have mentioned, please tell me more about the product! Thanks!
Connection failure for one specific address: PCWorld..?!? Hi, I have been having, for a week or two, the weirdest problem ever. Let's say I try to follow a link in PCWorlds newsletter, I then get an error message saying: "Connection Failed. Firefox cannot connect to the server at Reviews and News on Tech Products, Software and Downloads - PC World. - The site may be temporarily down, try again etc. etc. The message comes up immediately, no trying with subsequent time-out, just bang - head against the wall. Same difference with Internet Explorer. The weird thing is that it's only PCWorld.com I cannot connect to, all other sites (this one, for instance) work fine. I just can't remember what I might have done to exclude myself from PCWorld. Can anybody out there guess what's the matter? Thank you!

MAKEUP: mac studio tech? can i please have a review on this product? also..what brush do you use with this foundation? please & thank you
I am starting a new business and I would like to know which accounting software is recommended? I've been reading these "God awful" reviews on QuickBooks Pro 2007 on Amazon (how you have to buy each software package when it's time to "upgrade", horrible overseas tech support, having salespeople harass you, etc.) and how you get pop-ups that you can't disable to purchase their products. Are there anything that is just as good as QBs? I don't want to be quick to judge as I've never used an Accounting software before, but I'm seeing all the signs that says not to buy it. Thanks!
How do I go about getting a test sample? About 2 months ago, I founded a website specializing in tech reviews. It's not a huge operation (with me being the only employee), but I wanted to attract visitors by getting an early look at a brand new product (specifically, the new MacBook Pro). I know that larger companies such as Endgadget or Machinima contact companies like Apple and get a review sample for free for a certain period of time; but those companies are practically world renowned. How should I go about doing this? If you want to get an idea of how measly the site is so far, you can look up "theapplenewsreel.com".

What profession is best for me? I'm a Tech Lover and I love reviewing products and browsing about them and sharing about the latest in the Tech World to others..:-)
Where do I Blog here, there, or where? I want to start blogging. It will mostly be about personal experiences, product reviews, opinions, makeup, hair, referrals, etc. Nothing professional, but I would like an awesome looking page. I am not tech savvy and don't know much at all about html or whatever. I have only done Facebook and Yahoo 360 before. I want something more personalized. I don't want an uninteresting generic looking page. I would eventually like to add more things to my page, but don't want so much hassle that I wish I never started it. So, what do you recommend and why?

What is the best protein powder, weight-gainer powder on the market of 2011? I have tried so many brands and a lot of their products trying to figure out the best protein and weight-gainer powder on the market. I have read many reviews: athletic performers, body builders, doctors, personal trainers, and the average gym attendee, and all of their reviews are the opposite of the others or what other sites post which leaves me to have to just go out and spend a fortune and try it myself which kinda blows because i was hoping to just get an accurate review of someone who actually used the product for awhile and actually explained the results. Im a 6,1" 17 year old who's pretty slim accurately 165lbs. and im looking for a good weight-gainer packed full of calories and protein and then im looking for a protein powder loaded with protein and creatine. So far for a weight-gainer i have tried iso-mass extreme and i have to say...its one hell of a weight-gainer. Full of almost 1000 calories and 72g of protein. Don't know much about all the main ingredients in muscle building besides the basic: BCAA's, creatine, and protein (of course). But besides that, the powder was pretty good. It called for 3 scoops and like enough milk to fill up the rest of the pitcher and after drinking that i was full as shit. But i drank 3 pitchers full every day 3 scoops every pitcher for about a whole week and i gained about 10lbs. And no all of that was not pure muscle but it did what i wanted it to do: build mass, gain some thickness and put on some weight. I worked out about 4-5 times a week and i have a fast metabolism so its really hard for me to get fat non the less gain weight and i want a little thickness to my look instead of just looking cut i actually want to gain some bulk. Then iv tried many protein powders and the ones that i really like were the muscle tech nitro tech hardcore. It taste like dog shit but if it gives results its worth it. And about after a week i could see the results but i was able to feel the results just from the knowledge of other protein powders and how long and good the results took and felt. Even though i am very young and some would say i barely have any knowledge or experience (which is true) iv still tried many powders to realize the difference. I really like brand muscle tech and their products but iv read so many reviews and probably bias opinions that i really don't know anything for sure. So my question to all of you is, what are some truly dependable, actually working weight-gainers and packed full protein powders. Just cut the B.S. and save me some time and money and name some brands or names of powders that actually show results. Remember weight-gainers with mainly tons of calories but with a good amount of protein and BCAA's and creatine if possible. Then the second product im looking for is an amazing protein powder. This one i would like it to have plenty of creatine, BCAA's and once again a shitload of protein. Give a legitimate reason where and how you know your info Thank you. Didn't mean to sound like a dick just sick of buying shit and it not working as people said.
What is the best, cost effective router to set up a wireless home network? I am considering the Buffalo Technology Nfiniti WZR-HP-G300NH Wireless-N High Power Router ($79.99 www.newegg.com), but I am not sure if I will be able to configure it properly myself. The reason I am looking at this particular one is due to the fact that I need one with long range as I would like to be able to use internet from the basement up to the second floor of my home. I have read equally good and bad reviews on this product written by the tech savvy. I am a novice to networking.

What should I buy for better wireless? repeaters, extenders, bridges, airports, I don't have time to review and learn about all this. I have a verizon branded (actiontec MI424-WR) modem/router in 1. Its aweful. The verizon tech said its only good for 10-15 feet and no walls. Specifically, what product should I buy to get good reception through walls up to 45 feet away, while not spending much more than $100.?

Test/Review Products? I was wondering if anyone knew any good websites where they will give you products to review? Or if anyone knows how to write a decisive email that I could send to companies? I have a YouTube channel and a website where I do a lot of tech stuff and would like to expand by testing and reviewing products for companies.

Norton v Avast v Bit Defender? 2012 security suites? I'm abandoning ZoneAlarm ICS after having been a customer for many many years. I've 15 years in IT desktop development and support but have been out of the loop for several years due to my blinders set on ZA, I've narrowed by search for a 2012 Internet Security Suite: Norton, Bit Defender and Avast. Any feedback? As a desktop support tech at a local university (while doing undergrad work) we saw a lot of Norton and it didn't look very customizable or controllable. I need to be able to customize firewall port settings, program access levels, learning mode, Malware/email security. Customizable control levels. i.e. user managed white lists.. Multi year/multi PC license. Plus it can't be a hob like ZA ICS has been known to be. Norton comes out on top in most independent reviews but brand market penetration can cause that... Has Norton changed their ways and opened up control? What is you unbiased opinion? Reason for opinion? Level of expertise... Other than PCMag & PCWorld, your source of reviews? Do you recommend another product? Please cite reviews or independent input for your statements. ALSO, at the end of my license period (if I should forget to renew), I'd like the product to stop updating itself, not stop RUNNING as Norton has done in the past. BTW, I know Microsoft Security Essentials is free but it's not an option so please don't suggest it. And please don't throw the "Apple doesn't have this problem" because naivete and blind following of a vendor's gospel doesn't spell out truth. Yes, I have done my homework. But the a major step in any software product evaluation is to get real life feedback from current users. Independent reviews are generally in isolated labs and eliminate the "real life" experience which is a major factor. So yes, initial homework is done but real life feedback is honestly valued and appreciated. Don't hesitate. To the person who chose to respond about Apple users, true as i have stated, but it doesn't answer my question.
Should I get the Canon IXUS 220HS/ PowerShot ELPH 300HS? I am a tech reviewer on YouTube and I've been using a Kodak Zi8 (no autofocus, just landscape and macro setting) and a Nikon D3100 (very slow and loud autofocus, doesn't really focus well). I am about to buy the Canon IXUS 220 HS (aka PowerShot ELPH 300 HS in the US). Should I get it? I found it online for £100 so that's a pretty sweet deal. My question is if it focuses quickly and if it's good for product unboxings and reviews. Can anyone help me with that? Also, if you know any camera that is great for close-up product shots that is under £150, please let me know (needs to be at least 720p).
How can I review or demo the latest in tech and gaming? I am about to graduate from ITT Technical Institute this fall/winter. In order to graduate I have to do a big final project. What I plan to do is an internet show about the latest and newest gadgets and games. Of course in order for this project to be successful I need access to the latest games and gadgets at the lowest possible price. I guess my question is: Is there any way for me, as a regular guy with no ties to the press whatsoever, to get my hands on the products I want to talk about without paying the latest price for them?

Do you think this is a good mp3 player to buy? Since there are only two reviews, I don't know if I should trust this product. Here is the link to the mp3 player I'm considering to purchase. http://www.amazon.com/Touchscreen-MP4-Digital-Receiver-Recorder/dp/tech-data/B0011MR4AK/ref=de_a_smtd
Does anyone have any history or reviews they could share about Eagle Tech? Thinking of buying their 4TB drive? I have always liked the Hitachi brand of hard drives but in the last year (more like 1/2 year) I have had 5 of the buggers die on me -- all were within warranty so I have had them replaced for free but still the annoyance not to mention time consuming effort to grab my data and put my data back has kinda soured me on the brand some... SO I am looking at other brands for my storage needs... I was looking at this drive but have never heard of Eagle Tech (but then I am not necessarily the most knowledgeable on all the brands out there)... It looks like a fabulous deal for $210 -- a 4 TB drive... My question -- what is the reputation of Eagle Tech? What has been peoples experiences with their drives? I'd hate to spend the dough and find out there just the same as all the others... I did a search on yahoo but didn't get a whole lotta useful info / reviews... Please share your expeiences and stories and help me make up my mind on whether to trust my data to them... Thanks! The drive I have my eye on, in case you're wondering is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822324056&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-Hard%20Drives%20-%20External-_-EAGLE%20TECH-_-22324056&AID=10440897&PID=3087823&SID= 4 tb my friend is not too much when you work in production and have film clips, etc to store... you'd be surprised how quickly hard drives fill up... soooo back to my question please, if you don't know thats ok...

Is the HP G60-100 Laptop at PCWorld for real? Or a lemon? I have encountered a mysterious laptop at PC World and am absolutely stumped to find anyone who has bought it or reviewed it or can even confirm that it exists outside the PC World universe. I'm looking for a new laptop that will be pretty reliable and good for photoshop (which I am learning this year), watching the odd video, and basic internet/word. The fella at PCWorld directed me to the HP G60-100, specs are here, on the basis that it had a dedicated graphics card (to make working in photoshop more efficient) and the GBP371 price was in my range: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0693694215.1231013757@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccdadegdjmfhfhcflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=041736&category_oid=-35054 Now, I can't find ANY reviews of this product, except for one that mentioned that HP `quietly' introduced it in September. I can hardly find it for sale at any other shop. This makes me nervous, because I am somewhat conservative about dropping a bit of money on tech stuff since it's not something I know tons about. Should I buy this one? Or is all the mystery around it a signal that it's basically a lemon and I should get something else? PS I like the 15inch screen size and can't be bothered with bluray so if you have any other thoughts, what should I get? Thanks.
Can you please recommend a notebook for a college student (PC or Mac)? My requirements are specific and very crucial. Please read everything below before recommending. Thank you, and sorry about the length! I need my notebook to be portable (15" tops, and ideally 13") and light. Battery life must be at least 4 hours--but the longer the better, of course. Also, I do a lot of drawing with a tablet/music making/filmmaking/video editing, and I CANNOT have my notebook crashing on me. I need a machine that is fast and reliable in this aspect. Design/appearance matters, but less than the other requirements, mentioned above. The brand is very important to me--not because I care about having a brand-name notebook, but because I have a very limited knowledge of the hardware of computers (and cannot understand all those tech-savvy blogs' reviews about Intel Core Telemumble jumble CPU XIDUGidh Processing Firesomething bluesomething tooth), and I need a company that is good with after service. Price is not an issue, but I do want to know about value--and whether it matches up to the price. I'm leaning towards LG and Samsung (although their notebooks aren't rated very high on the blogs I checked), because I live in South Korea, and both brands are top brands in SK-- and therefore the most reliable and quick about responding to customer complaints. However, I'm very seriously considering a Mac. I'm scared to change from PC to Mac (especially because Korea is a Mac-unfriendly place and so getting Mac tech help or Mac products would be more of a chore) but the one reason I'm considering this is because an overwhelming number of people recommended a Mac to me for my needs (filmmaking, recording/making music). I also heard that Rian Johnson used a plain ol' MacBook (earlier gen) to record for his movie, Brick--and I was impressed with how professional the result was. You don't have to answer all of my questions--just an informed opinion on any one of the questions I asked would be helpful. Thank you very much!
Will this custom PC fit? any suggestions, etc? Hi, I am thinking about upgrading my computer to a much more powerful rig for video/graphics editing, CAD, and gaming. I don't have a budget at all for this build and am trying to go all out. So, with this in mind, the following are the parts I plan to incorporate into this PC: -->Xclio WTBK Black ATX Full Tower Case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811103019&cm_re=xclio-_-11-103-019-_-Product) OR -->Xclio 777 ATX Full Tower Case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811103029&cm_re=xclio-_-11-103-029-_-Product) -->Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128362&cm_re=gigabyte-_-13-128-362-_-Product) -->Corsair Dominator 12GB (6x2 GB) DDR3 1600 RAM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145271&Tpk=corsair%20dominator) -->OCZ Z-Series Gold 1000W SLI Certified PSU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341028&cm_re=ocz_z_series-_-17-341-028-_-Product) -->(x2) BFG Tech GeForce GTX 295 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143167&cm_re=bfg_gtx_295-_-14-143-167-_-Product) -->Prolimatech Megahalem CPU Cooler -->LG Black 8x Blu-Ray Burner SATA -->(x2) Western Digital Caviar 1TB 7200RPM SATA Internal HD -->Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB SATA II Solid State Drive (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167023) -->Razer Imperator Black USB Ergonomic Gaming Mouse (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826153057&cm_re=razer_ergonomic-_-26-153-057-_-Product) -->(x2) Asus VK246H 24" LCD Widescreen LOL...yea as you can see its all top-of-the-line products. I was just wondering if any of you have any experience with these products and it be appreciated if you can provide any personal reviews or suggestions. Also, do you guys have any other recommendations of other products (I have NO budget and am just trying to build the most beast custom PC haha)? And, will this whole setup fit in the cases that I listed and not be all crammed? Lastly, on an off-topic question, what components or specifications do I need to connect quad Asus VK246H monitors? Is it possible to connect 4 of those monitors on 2 GTX 295 video cards w/ a dongle?..is it possible to connect 4 monitors on 1 video card? I know this is a redonkulous build, but I have enough money to shell out a redonkulous custom PC so there's no need to reply and say I'm wasting money lol...any reviews or recommendations would be greatly appreciated thanks! haha i forgot...yea I'm putting in i7 975 bloomfield
Good gas blowback airsoft pistol? I'm looking for a good airsoft pistol $130 or under. I'd be willing to stretch to 145 if it was awesome, but most likely no more. I found two guns that looked good to me; 1) KJW 1911 Tactical HI-CAPA Gas / CO2 Blowback (http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_45_241&products_id=30356) 2) Evike.com Custom 1911 Hicapa Gas Blowback by WE-Tech (http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_45_252&products_id=27512) I really like the fps that the KJW is putting out, but I've also heard that KJW pistols are pieces of crap. On the other hand, it has very good reviews. It seems to me that the WE-Tech has a superior cycle rate (that's the main selling point), and WE-Tech has a much better reputation than KJW. It also has a much slower fps, which I don't like. If you could recommend one over the other, which would it be? If you have any other guns that you would like to share, please do.
Which LCD TV should i buy? I am looking to spend around $800-900 on a new TV. I have found a Vizio VL470M and Philips 47PFL7403 at Sam's for around this price. I was wondering which, of the two, would be a better choice. I have read MANY reviews of both and they seem pretty equal, but many of the reviewers were previous owners of each brand or this is their first LCD TV, so the reviews look biased. Here is the Vizio: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS349&q=Vizio+VL470m&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=1121627821632872207&ei=IrsyS-2eIZCcswO7ody9BA&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CB4Q8wIwAw&os=tech-specs and the Philips: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/philips-47pfl7403/4507-6482_7-32815563.html?tag=mncolBtm;rnav (Pls just go by the Specs on the pages) I am mostly looking for longevity and reliability, but of course I would like good color, sound (I'm not hooking it up to surround sound any time soon), HD quality, and PC compatibility. If you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears. I require it to be at least 46" and have a refresh rate of at least 120hz. Thanks in advance.
Iphone users: I'm wanting one, worth the purchase? I currently have a regular old samsung phone. with MTS (specific to manitoba). When my contract ends i'm interested in switching to another service provider, and getting either a BlackBerry, or an Iphone. I know more people with BB. but i think an Iphone would be more my style... I'm not really tech savy, however I like the products that apple offers. (it would only be my second apple product-ipod nano from a few years back) and i have never heard any bad reviews... what do iphone users think of this product?

Yahoo webhosting? What's a good web host? Every Top 10 Hosting Plans list I see is different. So those don't offer much help. Bluehost I've never heard of but keeps emerging as one of the best. I'm currently using godaddy which I REALLY DISLIKE. It's tortuous. Everytime you buy a domain, you're blasted with screens of more options to buy crap. I dislike godaddy hosting. I have about 8 domains and a hosting package currently on godaddy so if I switched I'd need to be able to transfer those. I REALLY like yahoo's search engine and answers! area, etc. But I am not sure about there webhosting. Would need -- ecommerce (i'm going to be selling audio products, documents, and possibly video products from the site. Should I get a Toshiba laptop or an HP laptop? (more than a blind "which should I get" question)? While researching for a laptop, I have decided: 1.) For my uses, I will be needing laptops only under $1000 2.) HP and Toshiba provide the best laptops for that price range 3.) HP has better computers for that price range, but.... 4.) Toshiba doesn't have as many problems and HP support and computers can have many problems with them with little HP help, regardless of the store you bought it from (see links) This is a link from a Costco page of a refurbished HP computer. Some have been lucky to get a good laptop; most others have problems. See page 3 of the user reviews: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11471349&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&lang=en-US Additionally, even if I do end up with a good laptop, HP support seems to be highly absent: http://www.granneman.com/personal/journals/hpsterribleservice/index.htm There was another website I found saying that a series of HP laptops gave several customers the same problems around the board, and despite having many of them write directly on the HP website's forum, HP lacked any support or response in those forums, nor through tech support. Sorry I don't have a cite to that website. I can't find it through Google So the thing that scares me is the horrible HP reputation, but I am willing to buy an HP laptop for the sake of the potential quality. When I Google "hp horrible customer service," not only is it a suggested search on Google (from the drop down list), but there's pages of bad results. When I search "toshiba horrible customer service," I get a full page of "bad support," but not necessarily of Toshiba. There were perhaps four results of bad service from Toshiba, plus the fact that it seems Toshiba laptops don't seem to have many problems to begin with, and moreover the fact that it seemed Toshiba problems were from bad LCD panels for TVs from 07-08 So, based on your own intelligence and what I've told you, should I get a Toshiba or an HP? Here are the laptops I am looking at: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/hp-pavilion-dv5-1235dx/4505-3121_7-33496195.html?tag=mncol;lst#cnetReview http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9027714&type=product&id=1218010176167 http://www.bestbuy.com/site//olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat161100050036&type=category Thank you -_-" Can you elaborate on your response? Is this is a subtle clue to Narcissistic nature? (Note: I'm not going to mention the products I'm talking about because this is not meant to be a question that focuses around the products themselves.) My friend was recently bragging about his preference of a certain product to another product. I personally disagreed with his preference's logic, using very general and vague statements that told nothing of the actual advantages of said product. One day, I decided to try the product and wrote on his Facebook wall my opinion on it. It was a review that started off favoring a few qualities of the product, but towards the end revealed that while it certainly is not a bad product, in my opinion it just wasn't as good as my preferred product. It was a pretty balanced review that didn't hide the fact that this was my opinion -- but I gave specific reasons as to why I favored this particular product (rather than vague statements). He literally messaged me via chat and commented on how the nature of the product was designed for "tech types". I personally have been suspecting traits of narcissism, so I didn't want to encourage it. I pretty much ignored the comment, because honestly I wasn't sure how being 'tech' negated the problems I discussed with the products (in addition to the fact that this statement was a statement in which he assumed I was not, in-fact, 'tech'). I then proceeded to state that for the medium in which the product applied, I only used said medium for a limited amount of things. This was somewhat said in a manner that had a tone (but did not outright say--) "Yeah, lol you are right, I'm not very 'tech', I only use this for ____,____,etc". Rather than picking up on this desire to avoid confronting the elitist assumption that I am not 'tech', he proceeded to state 'Yeah, I use it for that too plus ____,____,____". Ignoring the remainder of the conversation, and keeping in mind that this person has done a lot of what I would consider Narcissistic, does this (in particular the third paragraph) somewhat validate my suspicions of my friend being a Narcissist in a very subtle way? To the 'You are the Narcissist' answer -- my frustration stems from the logic he used, not the fact that he had a different opinion. Even then, prior to this incident he was the one who would always bring up this product thing. I kinda suspected someone would respond with that response, but regardless whether or not I actually am ironically Narcissistic -- please focus on his responses. Do not focus on mine -- that's a separate question.
Should I buy this computer? I want to buy this computer, because I need a gaming rig that isn't too expensive. I already went over the stats with someone, but I just want to know, should I buy it? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229089 My main concern is the brand; Cyberpower has gotten a fair amount of negative reviews for problems with parts and tech support. But some people say "I ordered one a while ago, haven't had any problems." ONCE AGAIN DON'T TELL ME TO BUILD IT, I'M NOT GONNA!1!
Anybody know the power requirments for a Radeon 9550 256mb video card? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102484 i want to get this card... i only have a 250watt power supply though, and im broke so i dont want to buy a new power supply if i dont have to. im trying to figure out if this thing uses a lot more power than my current card (64mb MX4000), i dont currently have any power issues. i tried sapphire's support forum, and i literally got called a "10 year old f*** twat" by one of their support people because im not very tech savvy, so im a little leary of buying from them now, but the card got good reviews and is a good value so i still might get it if the power requirements are right.... i cant find a minimum suggested power supply listed anywhere doing internet seraches and checking manufacturer's website, and ive been told 250w and 300w by two different people, so if you have a source that'd be great. thanks in advance! i have 2.4ghz processor, 3 sticks of ram (756mb total), 1 hard drive, 2 optical drives. i have a dell 250w power supply which are decent; but ive read with dell computers, they arent standardized so you have to buy a dell PSU which start at like $60-80 this calculator told me my max peak wattage is about 305 watts at the moment, and it will be 315 by this calculator if i put the card in (but i know these calculators overestimate, and this calculator has a value of 40w for a radeon 9500 series; i read somewhere that max usage is 65w which concerns me) http://www.journeysystems.com/?powercalc

Help on choosing a laptop? I've been looking to purchase a laptop for gaming (mainly world of warcraft, yes I'm a nerd) and am having a little trouble finding the right one. It doesn't have to be a "gaming" laptop, I just want a portable way to play WoW. I've been looking at the Acer Aspire AS5920-6750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115488 but I've been reading reviews saying to avoid Acer? Is this true? Are there any other laptops I should be looking at <$1200? I'm not really tech savy when it comes to computer specs so any help would be appreciated.
Upgrading hardware...is it compatible? After days of snooping around I have settled on a possible system build and I was hoping I could have it checked before I go off and blow this kind of money on it. I already have these parts which I'm bringing over from my old computer: PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700 Watt (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_gamexstream_power_supply-nvidia_sli_ready_ ) Graphics Card: e-GeForce 8800 GTS (http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/hardware/1734_2.html ) HDD: Maxtor 6V300F0 (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16822144014 ) And these are the parts I'm planning on picking up. CPU: Intel i5 750 Motherboard: ASRock P55 Extreme http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.280692 RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277 I'm just wondering if this is all compatible(tech newbie) and if I'll be okay on XP until I pick up Windows 7. Thanks!
My first DIY PC and I have a few Questions.? Hi! I am thinking about building a PC for the experience and fun. (Would be my first.) Here's my question. Does the Motherboard at this link come with a processor on it? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128424 The reason I'm asking is because I consider it "cheating" to have that in already. I want to put this processor into it. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=socket+AM3+processor+3GHz&cid=5504251788575608414&sa=title&os=tech-specs I'd also like to know if the Motherboard comes with RAM in it as well, for the same reason. I'd like to put this RAM into it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148249&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Memory+(Desktop+Memory)-_-Crucial+Technology-_-20148249 Please tell me if this RAM will not fit in the Motherboard correctly. If it won't could you suggest an alternative? (Same with any of my other components.) And THEN, lol, I'd like to put it into this case. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Auzentech+GMC+-+R-4+Bulldozer+ATX+Middle+Tower+Case/9622422.p?skuId=9622422&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=9622422&ref=06&loc=01&id=1218132464687#tabbed-customerreviews One of the reviews said the case is a little small. I'm not sure if that's because they put so much into it or not. In your opinion, will it be large enough for what I plan to put into it? I'd like to put this fan into it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835114060 Will this do the job well enough? Also, I don't know how loud 45.8 decibels is. If this is going to be an annoying fan, I'd rather use something else. Please let me know this, maybe something to compare the sound to. Like I said, feel free to recommend any alternatives for components, this is my first DIY computer. If you think this is extraordinarily complex for my first PC (Based on what I'm putting into it.) let me know, and leave another option if you want. Don't include pricing in that analysis unless you want to recommend equivalent components that are cheaper. I'm not a millionaire, but I'm not too concerned about putting a little money into a nice project. Thanks in advance! =) I'm also kind of wondering about this case because it's kind of cool. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=computer+cases&cid=1645044257154916702&sa=title#p Would all the components I chose fit in it?
Is this a good laptop to get.. for what im trying to do?? =D? Anybody have experience with an: HP - Pavilion Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor? What gaming laptop is better? Hey, I'm currently comparing two gaming laptops to see which one I would like to purchase... I'm not exactly tech savvy, but I have done some research and found two to be very similar... What I'm looking for is a computer that will run games smoothly with no lag, good graphics, and relatively good multi-tasking abilities... These are the two I'm looking at: http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668123.php and http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=VETEFSHTUR0ZRKC4D3KFAGY?skuId=8897599&type=product&id=1212192365280#tabbed-customerreviews and here is a comparison chart: http://reviews.cnet.com/4504-4_7-0.html?id=33088931&id=33201021&&tag=boxcoco So, price aside, which would be better for gaming? Thanks for your time!

Is it good to drink milk? The text is too long but worthwhile read....? "MILK" Just the word itself sounds comforting! "How about a nice cup of hot milk?" The last time you heard that question it was from someone who cared for you--and you appreciated their effort. The entire matter of food and especially that of milk is surrounded with emotional and cultural importance. Milk was our very first food. If we were fortunate it was our mother's milk. A loving link, given and taken. It was the only path to survival. If not mother's milk it was cow's milk or soy milk "formula"--rarely it was goat, camel or water buffalo milk. Now, we are a nation of milk drinkers. Nearly all of us. Infants, the young, adolescents, adults and even the aged. We drink dozens or even several hundred gallons a year and add to that many pounds of "dairy products" such as cheese, butter, and yogurt. Can there be anything wrong with this? We see reassuring images of healthy, beautiful people on our television screens and hear messages that assure us that, "Milk is good for your body." Our dieticians insist that: "You've got to have milk, or where will you get your calcium?" School lunches always include milk and nearly every hospital meal will have milk added. And if that isn't enough, our nutritionists told us for years that dairy products make up an "essential food group." Industry spokesmen made sure that colourful charts proclaiming the necessity of milk and other essential nutrients were made available at no cost for schools. Cow's milk became "normal." You may be surprised to learn that most of the human beings that live on planet Earth today do not drink or use cow's milk. Further, most of them can't drink milk because it makes them ill. There are students of human nutrition who are not supportive of milk use for adults. Here is a quotation from the March/April 1991 Utne Reader: If you really want to play it safe, you may decide to join the growing number of Americans who are eliminating dairy products from their diets altogether. Although this sounds radical to those of us weaned on milk and the five basic food groups, it is eminently viable. Indeed, of all the mammals, only humans--and then only a minority, principally Caucasians--continue to drink milk beyond babyhood. Who is right? Why the confusion? Where best to get our answers? Can we trust milk industry spokesmen? Can you trust any industry spokesmen? Are nutritionists up to date or are they simply repeating what their professors learned years ago? What about the new voices urging caution? I believe that there are three reliable sources of information. The first, and probably the best, is a study of nature. The second is to study the history of our own species. Finally we need to look at the world's scientific literature on the subject of milk. Let's look at the scientific literature first. From 1988 to 1993 there were over 2,700 articles dealing with milk recorded in the 'Medicine' archives. Fifteen hundred of theses had milk as the main focus of the article. There is no lack of scientific information on this subject. I reviewed over 500 of the 1,500 articles, discarding articles that dealt exclusively with animals, esoteric research and inconclusive studies. How would I summarize the articles? They were only slightly less than horrifying. First of all, none of the authors spoke of cow's milk as an excellent food, free of side effects and the 'perfect food' as we have been led to believe by the industry. The main focus of the published reports seems to be on intestinal colic, intestinal irritation, intestinal bleeding, anemia, allergic reactions in infants and children as well as infections such as salmonella. More ominous is the fear of viral infection with bovine leukemia virus or an AIDS-like virus as well as concern for childhood diabetes. Contamination of milk by blood and white (pus) cells as well as a variety of chemicals and insecticides was also discussed. Among children the problems were allergy, ear and tonsillar infections, bedwetting, asthma, intestinal bleeding, colic and childhood diabetes. In adults the problems seemed centered more around heart disease and arthritis, allergy, sinusitis, and the more serious questions of leukemia, lymphoma and cancer. I think that an answer can also be found in a consideration of what occurs in nature & what happens with free living mammals and what happens with human groups living in close to a natural state as 'hunter-gatherers'. Our paleolithic ancestors are another crucial and interesting group to study. Here we are limited to speculation and indirect evidences, but the bony remains available for our study are remarkable. There is no doubt whatever that these skeletal remains reflect great strength, muscularity (the size of the muscular insertions show this), and total absence of advanced osteoporosis. And if you feel that these people are not important for us to study, consider that today our genes are programming our bodies in almost exactly the same way as our ancestors of 50,000 to 100,000 years ago. WHAT IS MILK? Milk is a maternal lactating secretion, a short term nutrient for new-borns. Nothing more, nothing less. Invariably, the mother of any mammal will provide her milk for a short period of time immediately after birth. When the time comes for 'weaning', the young offspring is introduced to the proper food for that species of mammal. A familiar example is that of a puppy. The mother nurses the pup for just a few weeks and then rejects the young animal and teaches it to eat solid food. Nursing is provided by nature only for the very youngest of mammals. Of course, it is not possible for animals living in a natural state to continue with the drinking of milk after weaning. IS ALL MILK THE SAME? Then there is the matter of where we get our milk. We have settled on the cow because of its docile nature, its size, and its abundant milk supply. Somehow this choice seems 'normal' and blessed by nature, our culture, and our customs. But is it natural? Is it wise to drink the milk of another species of mammal? Consider for a moment, if it was possible, to drink the milk of a mammal other than a cow, let's say a rat. Or perhaps the milk of a dog would be more to your liking. Possibly some horse milk or cat milk. Do you get the idea? Well, I'm not serious about this, except to suggest that human milk is for human infants, dogs' milk is for pups, cows' milk is for calves, cats' milk is for kittens, and so forth. Clearly, this is the way nature intends it. Just use your own good judgement on this one. Milk is not just milk. The milk of every species of mammal is unique and specifically tailored to the requirements of that animal. For example, cows' milk is very much richer in protein than human milk. Three to four times as much. It has five to seven times the mineral content. However, it is markedly deficient in essential fatty acids when compared to human mothers' milk. Mothers' milk has six to ten times as much of the essential fatty acids, especially linoleic acid. (Incidentally, skimmed cow's milk has no linoleic acid). It simply is not designed for humans. Food is not just food, and milk is not just milk. It is not only the proper amount of food but the proper qualitative composition that is critical for the very best in health and growth. Biochemists and physiologists -and rarely medical doctors - are gradually learning that foods contain the crucial elements that allow a particular species to develop its unique specializations. Clearly, our specialization is for advanced neurological development and delicate neuromuscular control. We do not have much need of massive skeletal growth or huge muscle groups as does a calf. Think of the difference between the demands make on the human hand and the demands on a cow's hoof. Human new-borns specifically need critical material for their brains, spinal cord and nerves. Can mother's milk increase intelligence? It seems that it can. In a remarkable study published in Lancet during 1992 (Vol. 339, p. 261-4), a group of British workers randomly placed premature infants into two groups. One group received a proper formula, the other group received human breast milk. Both fluids were given by stomach tube. These children were followed up for over 10 years. In intelligence testing, the human milk children averaged 10 IQ points higher! Well, why not? Why wouldn't the correct building blocks for the rapidly maturing and growing brain have a positive effect? In the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (1982) Ralph Holman described an infant who developed profound neurological disease while being nourished by intravenous fluids only. The fluids used contained only linoleic acid - just one of the essential fatty acids. When the other, alpha linoleic acid, was added to the intravenous fluids the neurological disorders cleared. In the same journal five years later Bjerve, Mostad and Thoresen, working in Norway found exactly the same problem in adult patients on long term gastric tube feeding. In 1930 Dr. G.O. Burr in Minnesota working with rats found that linoleic acid deficiencies created a deficiency syndrome. Why is this mentioned? In the early 1960s pediatricians found skin lesions in children fed formulas without the same linoleic acid. Remembering the research, the addition of the acid to the formula cured the problem. Essential fatty acids are just that and cows' milk is markedly deficient in these when compared to human milk. WELL, AT LEAST COW'S MILK IS PURE Or is it? Fifty years ago an average cow produced 2,000 pounds of milk per year. Today the top producers give 50,000 pounds! How was this accomplished? Drugs, antibiotics, hormones, forced feeding plans and specialized breeding; that's how. The latest high-tech onslaught on the poor cow is bovine growth hormone or BGH. This genetically engineered drug is supposed to stimulate milk production but, according to Monsanto, the hormone's manufacturer, does not affect the milk or meat. There are three other manufacturers: Upjohn, Eli Lilly, and American Cyanamid Company. Obviously, there have been no long-term studies on the hormone's effect on the humans drinking the milk. Other countries have banned BGH because of safety concerns. One of the problems with adding molecules to a milk cows' body is that the molecules usually come out in the milk. I don't know how you feel, but I don't want to experiment with the ingestion of a growth hormone. A related problem is that it causes a marked increase (50 to 70 per cent) in mastitis. This, then, requires antibiotic therapy, and the residues of the antibiotics appear in the milk. It seems that the public is uneasy about this product and in one survey 43 per cent felt that growth hormone treated milk represented a health risk. A vice president for public policy at Monsanto was opposed to labelling for that reason, and because the labelling would create an 'artificial distinction'. The country is awash with milk as it is, we produce more milk than we can consume. Let's not create storage costs and further taxpayer burdens, because the law requires the USDA to buy any surplus of butter, cheese, or non-fat dry milk at a support price set by Congress! In fiscal 1991, the USDA spent $757 million on surplus butter, and one billion dollars a year on average for price supports during the 1980s (Consumer Reports, May 1992: 330-32). Any lactating mammal excretes toxins through her milk. This includes antibiotics, pesticides, chemicals and hormones. Also, all cows' milk contains blood! The inspectors are simply asked to keep it under certain limits. You may be horrified to learn that the USDA allows milk to contain from one to one and a half million white blood cells per millilitre. (That's only 1/30 of an ounce). If you don't already know this, I'm sorry to tell you that another way to describe white cells where they don't belong would be to call them pus cells. To get to the point, is milk pure or is it a chemical, biological, and bacterial cocktail? Finally, will the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) protect you? The United States General Accounting Office (GAO) tells us that the FDA and the individual States are failing to protect the public from drug residues in milk. Authorities test for only 4 of the 82 drugs in dairy cows. As you can imagine, the Milk Industry Foundation's spokesman claims it's perfectly safe. Jerome Kozak says, "I still think that milk is the safest product we have." Other, perhaps less biased observers, have found the following: 38% of milk samples in 10 cities were contaminated with sulfa drugs or other antibiotics. (This from the Centre for Science in the Public Interest and The Wall Street Journal, Dec. 29, 1989).. A similar study in Washington, DC found a 20 percent contamination rate (Nutrition Action Healthletter, April 1990). What's going on here? When the FDA tested milk, they found few problems. However, they used very lax standards. When they used the same criteria, the FDA data showed 51 percent of the milk samples showed drug traces. Let's focus in on this because it’s critical to our understanding of the apparent discrepancies. The FDA uses a disk-assay method that can detect only 2 of the 30 or so drugs found in milk. Also, the test detects only at the relatively high level. A more powerful test called the 'Charm II test' can detect drugs down to 5 parts per billion. One nasty subject must be discussed. It seems that cows are forever getting infections around the udder that require ointments and antibiotics. An article from France tells us that when a cow receives penicillin, that penicillin appears in the milk for from 4 to 7 milkings. Another study from the University of Nevada, Reno tells of cells in 'mastic milk', milk from cows with infected udders. An elaborate analysis of the cell fragments, employing cell cultures, flow cytometric analysis , and a great deal of high tech stuff. Do you know what the conclusion was? If the cow has mastitis, there is pus in the milk. Sorry, it’s in the study, all concealed with language such as "macrophages containing many vacuoles and phagocytosed particles," etc. IT GETS WORSE Well, at least human mothers' milk is pure! Sorry. A huge study showed that human breast milk in over 14,000 women had contamination by pesticides! Further, it seems that the sources of the pesticides are meat and--you guessed it-- dairy products. Well, why not? These pesticides are concentrated in fat and that's what's in these products. (Of interest, a subgroup of lactating vegetarian mothers had only half the levels of contamination). A recent report showed an increased concentration of pesticides in the breast tissue of women with breast cancer when compared to the tissue of women with fibrocystic disease. Other articles in the standard medical literature describe problems. Just scan these titles: 1.Cow's Milk as a Cause of Infantile Colic Breast-Fed Infants. Lancet 2 (1978): 437 2.Dietary Protein-Induced Colitis in Breast- Fed Infants, J. Pediatr. I01 (1982): 906 3.The Question of the Elimination of Foreign Protein in Women's Milk, J. Immunology 19 (1930): 15 There are many others. There are dozens of studies describing the prompt appearance of cows' milk allergy in children being exclusively breast-fed! The cows' milk allergens simply appear in the mother's milk and are transmitted to the infant. A committee on nutrition of the American Academy of Pediatrics reported on the use of whole cows' milk in infancy (Pediatrics 1983: 72-253). They were unable to provide any cogent reason why bovine milk should be used before the first birthday yet continued to recommend its use! Doctor Frank Oski from the Upstate Medical Centre Department of Pediatrics, commenting on the recommendation, cited the problems of acute gastrointestinal blood loss in infants, the lack of iron, recurrent abdominal pain, milk- borne infections and contaminants, and said: Why give it at all - then or ever? In the face of uncertainty about many of the potential dangers of whole bovine milk, it would seem prudent to recommend that whole milk not be started until the answers are available. Isn't it time for these uncontrolled experiments on human nutrition to come to an end? In the same issue of Pediatrics he further commented: It is my thesis that whole milk should not be fed to the infant in the first year of life because of its association with iron deficiency anemia (milk is so deficient in iron that an infant would have to drink an impossible 31 quarts a day to get the RDA of 15 mg), acute gastrointiestinal bleeding, and various manifestations of food allergy. I suggest that unmodified whole bovine milk should not be consumed after infancy because of the problems of lactose intolerance, its contribution to the genesis of atherosclerosis, and its possible link to other diseases. In late 1992 Dr. Benjamin Spock, possibly the best known pediatrician in history, shocked the country when he articulated the same thoughts and specified avoidance for the first two years of life. Here is his quotation: I want to pass on the word to parents that cows' milk from the carton has definite faults for some babies. Human milk is the right one for babies. A study comparing the incidence of allergy and colic in the breast-fed infants of omnivorous and vegan mothers would be important. I haven't found such a study; it would be both important and inexpensive. And it will probably never be done. There is simply no academic or economic profit involved. OTHER PROBLEMS Let's just mention the problems of bacterial contamination. Salmonella, E. coli, and staphylococcal infections can be traced to milk. In the old days tuberculosis was a major problem and some folks want to go back to those times by insisting on raw milk on the basis that it's "natural." This is insanity! A study from UCLA showed that over a third of all cases of salmonella infection in California, 1980-1983 were traced to raw milk. That'll be a way to revive good old brucellosis again and I would fear leukemia, too. (More about that later). In England, and Wales where raw milk is still consumed there have been outbreaks of milk-borne diseases. The Journal of the American Medical Association (251: 483, 1984) reported a multi-state series of infections caused by Yersinia enterocolitica in pasteurised whole milk. This is despite safety precautions. All parents dread juvenile diabetes for their children. A Canadian study reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Mar. 1990, describes a "...significant positive correlation between consumption of unfermented milk protein and incidence of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus in data from various countries. Conversely a possible negative relationship is observed between breast-feeding at age 3 months and diabetes risk.". Another study from Finland found that diabetic children had higher levels of serum antibodies to cows’ milk (Diabetes Research 7(3): 137-140 March 1988). Here is a quotation from this study: We infer that either the pattern of cows' milk consumption is altered in children who will have insulin dependent diabetes mellitus or, their immunological reactivity to proteins in cows' milk is enhanced, or the permeability of their intestines to cows' milk protein is higher than normal. The April 18, 1992 British Medical Journal has a fascinating study contrasting the difference in incidence of juvenile insulin dependent diabetes in Pakistani children who have migrated to England. The incidence is roughly 10 times greater in the English group compared to children remaining in Pakistan! What caused this highly significant increase? The authors said that "the diet was unchanged in Great Britain." Do you believe that? Do you think that the availability of milk, sugar and fat is the same in Pakistan as it is in England? That a grocery store in England has the same products as food sources in Pakistan? I don't believe that for a minute. Remember, we're not talking here about adult onset, type II diabetes which all workers agree is strongly linked to diet as well as to a genetic predisposition. This study is a major blow to the "it's all in your genes" crowd. Type I diabetes was always considered to be genetic or possibly viral, but now this? So resistant are we to consider diet as causation that the authors of the last article concluded that the cooler climate in England altered viruses and caused the very real increase in diabetes! The first two authors had the same reluctance top admit the obvious. The milk just may have had something to do with the disease. The latest in this remarkable list of reports, a New England Journal of Medicine article (July 30, 1992), also reported in the Los Angeles Times. This study comes from the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and from Finnish researchers. In Finland there is "...the world's highest rate of dairy product consumption and the world's highest rate of insulin dependent diabetes. The disease strikes about 40 children out of every 1,000 there contrasted with six to eight per 1,000 in the United States.... Antibodies produced against the milk protein during the first year of life, the researchers speculate, also attack and destroy the pancreas in a so-called auto-immune reaction, producing diabetes in people whose genetic makeup leaves them vulnerable." "...142 Finnish children with newly diagnosed diabetes. They found that every one had at least eight times as many antibodies against the milk protein as did healthy children, clear evidence that the children had a raging auto immune disorder." The team has now expanded the study to 400 children and is starting a trial where 3,000 children will receive no dairy products during the first nine months of life. "The study may take 10 years, but we'll get a definitive answer one way or the other," according to one of the researchers. I would caution them to be certain that the breast feeding mothers use on cows' milk in their diets or the results will be confounded by the transmission of the cows' milk protein in the mother's breast milk.... Now what was the reaction from the diabetes association? This is very interesting! Dr. F. Xavier Pi-Sunyer, the president of the association says: "It does not mean that children should stop drinking milk or that parents of diabetics should withdraw dairy products. These are rich sources of good protein." (Emphasis added) My God, it's the "good protein" that causes the problem! Do you suspect that the dairy industry may have helped the American Diabetes Association in the past? LEUKEMIA? LYMPHOMA? THIS MAY BE THE WORST--BRACE YOURSELF! I hate to tell you this, but the bovine leukemia virus is found in more than three of five dairy cows in the United States! This involves about 80% of dairy herds. Unfortunately, when the milk is pooled, a very large percentage of all milk produced is contaminated (90 to 95 per cent). Of course the virus is killed in pasteurisation-- if the pasteurisation was done correctly. What if the milk is raw? In a study of randomly collected raw milk samples the bovine leukemia virus was recovered from two-thirds. I sincerely hope that the raw milk dairy herds are carefully monitored when compared to the regular herds. (Science 1981; 213:1014). This is a world-wide problem. One lengthy study from Germany deplored the problem and admitted the impossibility of keeping the virus from infected cows' milk from the rest of the milk. Several European countries, including Germany and Switzerland, have attempted to "cull" the infected cows from their herds. Certainly the United States must be the leader in the fight against leukemic dairy cows, right? Wrong! We are the worst in the world with the former exception of Venezuela according to Virgil Hulse MD, a milk specialist who also has a B.S. in Dairy Manufacturing as well as a Master's degree in Public Health. As mentioned, the leukemia virus is rendered inactive by pasteurisation. Of course. However, there can be Chernobyl like accidents. One of these occurred in the Chicago area in April, 1985. At a modern, large, milk processing plant an accidental "cross connection" between raw and pasteurized milk occurred. A violent salmonella outbreak followed, killing 4 and making an estimated 150,000 ill. Now the question I would pose to the dairy industry people is this: "How can you assure the people who drank this milk that they were not exposed to the ingestion of raw, unkilled, bully active bovine leukemia viruses?" Further, it would be fascinating to know if a "cluster" of leukemia cases blossoms in that area in 1 to 3 decades. There are reports of "leukemia clusters" elsewhere, one of them mentioned in the June 10, 1990 San Francisco Chronicle involving Northern California. What happens to other species of mammals when they are exposed to the bovine leukemia virus? It's a fair question and the answer is not reassuring. Virtually all animals exposed to the virus develop leukemia. This includes sheep, goats, and even primates such as rhesus monkeys and chimpanzees. The route of transmission includes ingestion (both intravenous and intramuscular) and cells present in milk. There are obviously no instances of transfer attempts to human beings, but we know that the virus can infect human cells in vitro. There is evidence of human antibody formation to the bovine leukemia virus; this is disturbing. How did the bovine leukemia virus particles gain access to humans and become antigens? Was it as small, denatured particles? If the bovine leukemia viruses causes human leukemia, we could expect the dairy states with known leukemic herds to have a higher incidence of human leukemia. Is this so? Unfortunately, it seems to be the case! Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin have statistically higher incidence of leukemia than the national average. In Russia and in Sweden, areas with uncontrolled bovine leukemia virus have been linked with increases in human leukemia. I am also told that veterinarians have higher rates of leukemia than the general public. Dairy farmers have significantly elevated leukemia rates. Recent research shows lymphocytes from milk fed to neonatal mammals gains access to bodily tissues by passing directly through the intestinal wall. An optimistic note from the University of Illinois, Ubana from the Department of Animal Sciences shows the importance of one's perspective. Since they are concerned with the economics of milk and not primarily the health aspects, they noted that the production of milk was greater in the cows with the bovine leukemia virus. However when the leukemia produced a persistent and significant lymphocytosis (increased white blood cell count), the production fell off. They suggested "a need to re-evaluate the economic impact of bovine leukemia virus infection on the dairy industry". Does this mean that leukemia is good for profits only if we can keep it under control? You can get the details on this business concern from Proc. Nat. Acad. Sciences, U.S. Feb. 1989. I added emphasis and am insulted that a university department feels that this is an economic and not a human health issue. Do not expect help from the Department of Agriculture or the universities. The money stakes and the political pressures are too great. You're on you own. What does this all mean? We know that virus is capable of producing leukemia in other animals. Is it proven that it can contribute to human leukemia (or lymphoma, a related cancer)? Several articles tackle this one: 1.Epidemiologic Relationships of the Bovine Population and Human Leukemia in Iowa. Am Journal of Epidemiology 112 (1980):80 2.Milk of Dairy Cows Frequently Contains a Leukemogenic Virus. Science 213 (1981): 1014 3.Beware of the Cow. (Editorial) Lancet 2 (1974):30 4.Is Bovine Milk A Health Hazard?. Pediatrics; Suppl. Feeding the Normal Infant. 75:182-186; 1985 In Norway, 1422 individuals were followed for 11 and a half years. Those drinking 2 or more glasses of milk per day had 3.5 times the incidence of cancer of the lymphatic organs. British Med. Journal 61:456-9, March 1990. One of the more thoughtful articles on this subject is from Allan S. Cunningham of Cooperstown, New York. Writing in the Lancet, November 27, 1976 (page 1184), his article is entitled, "Lymphomas and Animal-Protein Consumption". Many people think of milk as “liquid meat” and Dr. Cunningham agrees with this. He tracked the beef and dairy consumption in terms of grams per day for a one year period, 1955-1956., in 15 countries . New Zealand, United States and Canada were highest in that order. The lowest was Japan followed by Yugoslavia and France. The difference between the highest and lowest was quite pronounced: 43.8 grams/day for New Zealanders versus 1.5 for Japan. Nearly a 30-fold difference! (Parenthetically, the last 36 years have seen a startling increase in the amount of beef and milk used in Japan and their disease patterns are reflecting this, confirming the lack of 'genetic protection' seen in migration studies. Formerly the increase in frequency of lymphomas in Japanese people was only in those who moved to the USA)! An interesting bit of trivia is to note the memorial built at the Gyokusenji Temple in Shimoda, Japan. This marked the spot where the first cow was killed in Japan for human consumption! The chains around this memorial were a gift from the US Navy. Where do you suppose the Japanese got the idea to eat beef? The year? 1930. Cunningham found a highly significant positive correlation between deaths from lymphomas and beef and dairy ingestion in the 15 countries analysed. A few quotations from his article follow: The average intake of protein in many countries is far in excess of the recommended requirements. Excessive consumption of animal protein may be one co-factor in the causation of lymphomas by acting in the following manner. Ingestion of certain proteins results in the adsorption of antigenic fragments through the gastrointestinal mucous membrane. This results in chronic stimulation of lymphoid tissue to which these fragments gain access "Chronic immunological stimulation causes lymphomas in laboratory animals and is believed to cause lymphoid cancers in men." The gastrointestinal mucous membrane is only a partial barrier to the absorption of food antigens, and circulating antibodies to food protein is commonplace especially potent lymphoid stimulants. Ingestion of cows' milk can produce generalized lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, and profound adenoid hypertrophy. It has been conservatively estimated that more than 100 distinct antigens are released by the normal digestion of cows' milk which evoke production of all antibody classes [This may explain why pasteurized, killed viruses are still antigenic and can still cause disease. Here's more. A large prospective study from Norway was reported in the British Journal of Cancer 61 (3):456-9, March 1990. (Almost 16,000 individuals were followed for 11 and a half years). For most cancers there was no association between the tumour and milk ingestion. However, in lymphoma, there was a strong positive association. If one drank two glasses or more daily (or the equivalent in dairy products), the odds were 3.4 times greater than in persons drinking less than one glass of developing a lymphoma. There are two other cow-related diseases that you should be aware of. At this time they are not known to be spread by the use of dairy products and are not known to involve man. The first is bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), and the second is the bovine immunodeficiency virus (BIV). The first of these diseases, we hope, is confined to England and causes cavities in the animal's brain. Sheep have long been known to suffer from a disease called scrapie. It seems to have been started by the feeding of contaminated sheep parts, especially brains, to the British cows. Now, use your good sense. Do cows seem like carnivores? Should they eat meat? This profit-motivated practice backfired and bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or Mad Cow Disease, swept Britain. The disease literally causes dementia in the unfortunate animal and is 100 per cent incurable. To date, over 100,000 cows have been incinerated in England in keeping with British law. Four hundred to 500 cows are reported as infected each month. The British public is concerned and has dropped its beef consumption by 25 per cent, while some 2,000 schools have stopped serving beef to children. Several farmers have developed a fatal disease syndrome that resembles both BSE and CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob- Disease). But the British Veterinary Association says that transmission of BSE to humans is "remote." The USDA agrees that the British epidemic was due to the feeding of cattle with bonemeal or animal protein produced at rendering plants from the carcasses of scrapie-infected sheep. The have prohibited the importation of live cattle and zoo ruminants from Great Britain and claim that the disease does not exist in the United States. However, there may be a problem. "Downer cows" are animals who arrive at auction yards or slaughter houses dead, trampled, lacerated, dehydrated, or too ill from viral or bacterial diseases to walk. Thus they are "down." If they cannot respond to electrical shocks by walking, they are dragged by chains to dumpsters and transported to rendering plants where, if they are not already dead, they are killed. Even a "humane" death is usually denied them. They are then turned into protein food for animals as well as other preparations. Minks that have been fed this protein have developed a fatal encephalopathy that has some resemblance to BSE. Entire colonies of minks have been lost in this manner, particularly in Wisconsin. It is feared that the infective agent is a prion or slow virus possible obtained from the ill "downer cows." The British Medical Journal in an editorial whimsically entitled "How Now Mad Cow?" (BMJ vol. 304, 11 Apr. 1992:929- 30) describes cases of BSE in species not previously known to be affected, such as cats. They admit that produce contaminated with bovine spongiform encephalopathy entered the human food chain in England between 1986 and 1989. They say. "The result of this experiment is awaited." As the incubation period can be up to three decades, wait we must. The immunodeficency virus is seen in cattle in the United States and is more worrisome. Its structure is closely related to that of the human AIDS virus. At this time we do not know if exposure to the raw BIV proteins can cause the sera of humans to become positive for HIV. The extent of the virus among American herds is said to be "widespread". (The USDA refuses to inspect the meat and milk to see if antibodies to this retrovirus is present). It also has no plans to quarantine the infected animals. As in the case of humans with AIDS, there is no cure for BIV in cows. Each day we consume beef and diary products from cows infected with these viruses and no scientific assurance exists that the products are safe. Eating raw beef (as in steak Tartare) strikes me as being very risky, especially after the Seattle E. coli deaths of 1993. A report in the Canadian Journal of Veterinary Research, October 1992, Vol. 56 pp.353-359 and another from the Russian literature, tell of a horrifying development. They report the first detection in human serum of the antibody to a bovine immunodeficiency virus protein. In addition to this disturbing report, is another from Russia telling us of the presence of virus proteins related to the bovine leukemia virus in 5 of 89 women with breast disease (Acta Virologica Feb. 1990 34(1): 19-26). The implications of these developments are unknown at present. However, it is safe to assume that these animal viruses are unlikely to "stay" in the animal kingdom. OTHER CANCERS--DOES IT GET WORSE? Unfortunately it does. Ovarian cancer--a particularly nasty tumour--was associated with milk consumption by workers at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, New York. Drinking more than one glass of whole milk or equivalent daily gave a woman a 3.1 times risk over non-milk users. They felt that the reduced fat milk products helped reduce the risk. This association has been made repeatedly by numerous investigators. Another important study, this from the Harvard Medical School, analyzed data from 27 countries mainly from the 1970s. Again a significant positive correlation is revealed between ovarian cancer and per capita milk consumption. These investigators feel that the lactose component of milk is the responsible fraction, and the digestion of this is facilitated by the persistence of the ability to digest the lactose (lactose persistence) - a little different emphasis, but the same conclusion. This study was reported in the American Journal of Epidemiology 130 (5): 904-10 Nov. 1989. These articles come from two of the country's leading institutions, not the Rodale Press or Prevention Magazine. Even lung cancer has been associated with milk ingestion? The beverage habits of 569 lung cancer patients and 569 controls again at Roswell Park were studied in the International Journal of Cancer, April 15, 1989. Persons drinking whole milk 3 or more times daily had a 2-fold increase in lung cancer risk when compared to those never drinking whole milk. For many years we have been watching the lung cancer rates for Japanese men who smoke far more than American or European men but who develop fewer lung cancers. Workers in this research area feel that the total fat intake is the difference. There are not many reports studying an association between milk ingestion and prostate cancer. One such report though was of great interest. This is from the Roswell Park Memorial Institute and is found in Cancer 64 (3): 605-12, 1989. They analyzed the diets of 371 prostate cancer patients and comparable control subjects: Men who reported drinking three or more glasses of whole milk daily had a relative risk of 2.49 compared with men who reported never drinking whole milk the weight of the evidence appears to favour the hypothesis that animal fat is related to increased risk of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer diagnosed in US men and is the second leading cause of cancer mortality. WELL, WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? Is there any health reason at all for an adult human to drink cows' milk? It's hard for me to come up with even one good reason other than simple preference. But if you try hard, in my opinion, these would be the best two: milk is a source of calcium and it's a source of amino acids (proteins). Let's look at the calcium first. Why are we concerned at all about calcium? Obviously, we intend it to build strong bones and protect us against osteoporosis. And no doubt about it, milk is loaded with calcium. But is it a good calcium source for humans? I think not. These are the reasons. Excessive amounts of dairy products actually interfere with calcium absorption. Secondly, the excess of protein that the milk provides is a major cause of the osteoporosis problem. Dr. H egsted in England has been writing for years about the geographical distribution of osteoporosis. It seems that the countries with the highest intake of dairy products are invariably the countries with the most osteoporosis. He feels that milk is a cause of osteoporosis. Reasons to be given below. Numerous studies have shown that the level of calcium ingestion and especially calcium supplementation has no effect whatever on the development of osteoporosis. The most important such article appeared recently in the British Journal of Medicine where the long arm of our dairy industry can't reach. Another study in the United States actually showed a worsening in calcium balance in post-menopausal women given three 8-ounce glasses of cows' milk per day. (Am. Journal of Clin. Nutrition, 1985). The effects of hormone, gender, weight bearing on the axial bones, and in particular protein intake, are critically important. Another observation that may be helpful to our analysis is to note the absence of any recorded dietary deficiencies of calcium among people living on a natural diet without milk. For the key to the osteoporosis riddle, don’t look at calcium, look at protein. Consider these two contrasting groups. Eskimos have an exceptionally high protein intake estimated at 25 percent of total calories. They also have a high calcium intake at 2,500 mg/day. Their osteoporosis is among the worst in the world. The other instructive group are the Bantus of South Africa. They have a 12 percent protein diet, mostly p lant protein, and only 200 to 350 mg/day of calcium, about half our women's intake. The women have virtually no osteoporosis despite bearing six or more children and nursing them for prolonged periods! When African women immigrate to the United States, do they develop osteoporosis? The answer is yes, but not quite are much as Caucasian or Asian women. Thus, there is a genetic difference that is modified by diet. To answer the obvious question, "Well, where do you get your calcium?" The answer is: "From exactly the same place the cow gets the calcium, from green things that grow in the ground," mainly from leafy vegetables. After all, elephants and rhinos develop their huge bones (after being weaned) by eating green leafy plants, so do horses. Carnivorous animals also do quite nicely without leafy plants. It seems that all of earth's mammals do well if they live in harmony with their genetic programming and natural food. Only humans living an affluent life style have rampant osteoporosis. If animal references do not convince you, think of the several billion humans on this earth who have never seen cows' milk. Wouldn't you think osteoporosis would be prevalent in this huge group? The dairy people would suggest this but the truth is exactly the opposite. They have far less than that seen in the countries where dairy products are commonly consumed. It is the subject of another paper, but the truly significant determinants of osteoporosis are grossly excessive protein intakes and lack of weight bearing on long bones, both taking place over decades. Hormones play a secondary, but not trivial role in women. Milk is a deterrent to good bone health. THE PROTEIN MYTH Remember when you were a kid and the adults all told you to "make sure you get plenty of good protein". Protein was the nutritional "good guy”" when I was young. And of course milk is fitted right in. As regards protein, milk is indeed a rich source of protein- -"liquid meat," remember? However that isn't necessarily what we need. In actual fact it is a source of difficulty. Nearly all Americans eat too much protein. For this information we rely on the most authoritative source that I am aware of. This is the latest edition (1oth, 1989: 4th printing, Jan. 1992) of the Recommended Dietary Allowances produced by the National Research Council. Of interest, the current editor of this important work is Dr. Richard Havel of the University of California in San Francisco. First to be noted is that the recommended protein has been steadily revised downward in successive editions. The current recommendation is 0.75 g/kilo/day for adults 19 through 51 years. This, of course, is only 45 grams per day for the mythical 60 kilogram adult. You should also know that the WHO estimated the need for protein in adults to by .6g/kilo per day. (All RDA's are calculated with large safety allowances in case you're the type that wants to add some more to "be sure.") You can "get by" on 28 to 30 grams a day if necessary! Now 45 grams a day is a tiny amount of protein. That's an ounce and a half! Consider too, that the protein does not have to be animal protein. Vegetable protein is identical for all practical purposes and has no cholesterol and vastly less saturated fat. (Do not be misled by the antiquated belief that plant proteins must be carefully balanced to avoid deficiencies. This is not a realistic concern.) Therefore virtually all Americans, Canadians, British and European people are in a protein overloaded state. This has serious consequences when maintained over decades. The problems are the already mentioned osteoporosis, atherosclerosis and kidney damage. There is good evidence that certain malignancies, chiefly colon and rectal, are related to excessive meat intake. Barry Brenner, an eminent renal physiologist was the first to fully point out the dangers of excess protein for the kidney tubule. The dangers of the fat and cholesterol are known to all. Finally, you should know that the protein content of human milk is amount the lowest (0.9%) in mammals. IS THAT ALL OF THE TROUBLE? Sorry, there's more. Remember lactose? This is the principal carbohydrate of milk. It seems that nature provides new- borns with the enzymatic equipment to metabolize lactose, but this ability often extinguishes by age 4 or 5 years. What is the problem with lactose or milk sugar? It seems that it is a disaccharide which is too large to be absorbed into the blood stream without first being broken down into monosaccharides, namely galactose and glucose. This requires the presence of an enzyme, lactase plus additional enzymes to break down the galactose into glucose. Let's think about his for a moment. Nature gives us the ability to metabolize lactose for a few years and then shuts off the mechanism. Is Mother Nature trying to tell us something? Clearly all infants must drink milk. The fact that so many adults cannot seems to be related to the tendency for nature to abandon mechanisms that are not needed. At least half of the adult humans on this earth are lactose intolerant. It was not until the relatively recent introduction of dairy herding and the ability to "borrow" milk from another group of mammals that the survival advantage of preserving lactase (the enzyme that allows us to digest lactose) became evident. But why would it be advantageous to drink cows' milk? After all, most of the human beings in the history of the world did. And further, why was it just the white or light skinned humans who retained this knack while the pigmented people tended to lose it? Some students of evolution feel that white skin is a fairly recent innovation, perhaps not more than 20,000 or 30,000 years old. It clearly has to do with the Northward migration of early man to cold and relatively sunless areas when skins and clothing became available. Fair skin allows the production of Vitamin D from sunlight more readily than does dark skin. However, when only the face was exposed to sunlight that area of fair skin was insufficient to provide the vitamin D from sunlight. If dietary and sunlight sources were poorly available, the ability to use the abundant calcium in cows' milk would give a survival advantage to humans who could digest that milk. This seems to be the only logical explanation for fair skinned humans having a high degree of lactose tolerance when compared to dark skinned people. How does this break down? Certain racial groups, namely blacks are up to 90% lactose intolerant as adults. Caucasians are 20 to 40% lactose intolerant. Orientals are midway between the above two groups. Diarrhea, gas and abdominal cramps are the results of substantial milk intake in such persons. Most American Indians cannot tolerate milk. The milk industry admits that lactose intolerance plays intestinal havoc with as many as 50 million Americans. A lactose-intolerance industry has sprung up and had sales of $117 million in 1992 (Time May 17, 1993.) What if you are lactose-intolerant and lust after dairy products? Is all lost? Not at all. It seems that lactose is largely digested by bacteria and you will be able to enjoy your cheese despite lactose intolerance. Yogurt is similar in this respect. Finally, and I could never have dreamed this up, geneticists want to splice genes to alter the composition of milk (Am J Clin Nutr 1993 Suppl 302s). One could quibble and say that milk is totally devoid of fiber content and that its habitual use will predispose to constipation and bowel disorders. The association with anemia and occult intestinal bleeding in infants is known to all physicians. This is chiefly from its lack of iron and its irritating qualities for the intestinal mucosa. The pediatric literature abounds with articles describing irritated intestinal lining, bleeding, increased permeability as well as colic, diarrhea and vomiting in cows'milk-sensitive babies. The anemia gets a double push by loss of blood and iron as well as deficiency of iron in the cows' milk. Milk is also the leading cause of childhood allergy. LOW FAT One additional topic: the matter of "low fat" milk. A common and sincere question is: "Well, low fat milk is OK, isn't it?" The answer to this question is that low fat milk isn't low fat. The term "low fat" is a marketing term used to gull the public. Low fat milk contains from 24 to 33% fat as calories! The 2% figure is also misleading. This refers to weight. They don't tell you that, by weight, the milk is 87% water! "Well, then, kill-joy surely you must approve of non-fat milk!" I hear this quite a bit. (Another constant concern is: "What do you put on your cereal?") True, there is little or no fat, but now you have a relative overburden of protein and lactose. It there is something that we do not need more of it is another simple sugar-lactose, composed of galactose and glucose. Millions of Americans are lactose intolerant to boot, as noted. As for protein, as stated earlier, we live in a society that routinely ingests far more protein than we need. It is a burden for our bodies, especially the kidneys, and a prominent cause of osteoporosis. Concerning the dry cereal issue, I would suggest soy milk, rice milk or almond milk as a healthy substitute. If you're still concerned about calcium, "Westsoy" is formulated to have the same calcium concentration as milk. SUMMARY To my thinking, there is only one valid reason to drink milk or use milk products. That is just because we simply want to. Because we like it and because it has become a part of our culture. Because we have become accustomed to its taste and texture. Because we like the way it slides down our throat. Because our parents did the very best they could for us and provided milk in our earliest training and conditioning. They taught us to like it. And then probably the very best reason is ice cream! I've heard it described "to die for". I had one patient who did exactly that. He had no obvious vices. He didn't smoke or drink, he didn’t eat meat, his diet and lifestyle was nearly a perfectly health promoting one; but he had a passion. You guessed it, he loved rich ice cream. A pint of the richest would be a lean day's ration for him. On many occasions he would eat an entire quart - and yes there were some cookies and other pastries. Good ice cream deserves this after all. He seemed to be in good health despite some expected "middle age spread" when he had a devastating stroke which left him paralyzed, miserable and helpless, and he had additional strokes and d ied several years later never having left a hospital or rehabilitation unit. Was he old? I don't think so. He was in his 50s. So don't drink milk for health. I am convinced on the weight of the scientific evidence that it does not "do a body good." Inclusion of milk will only reduce your diet's nutritional value and safety. Most of the people on this planet live very healthfully without cows' milk. You can too. It will be difficult to change; we've been conditioned since childhood to think of milk as "nature's most perfect food." I'll guarantee you that it will be safe, improve your health and it won't cost anything. The shipper picked up the goods on January 1 and delivered them on January 6. The shipping terms were FOB shipping point. The goods had a selling price of $40,950 and a cost of $32,730.The goods were not included in the count because they were sitting on the dock. 5.On December 29 Strawser shipped goods with a selling price of $81,290 and a cost of $61,350 to District Sales Corporation FOB shipping point. The goods arrived on January 3. District Sales had only ordered goods with a selling price of $11,900 and a cost of $8,510. However, a sales manager at Strawser had authorized the shipment and said that if District wanted to ship the goods back next week, it could. 6.Included in the count was $38,400 of goods that were parts for a machine that the company no longer made. Given the high-tech nature of Strawser's products, it was unlikely that these obsolete parts had any other use. However, management would prefer to keep them on the books at cost, "since that is what we paid for them, after all." Correct inventory : __________ ?
Good upgrade for my video card? I currently use an NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS. It's a few years old and the fan is starting to die, so I need to replace either the fan or the entire card. I might as well kill two birds with one stone, so if I can find an affordable card then I plan on replacing the whole thing. I found this site that lists the tech specs of the 7900 gs: http://reviews.cnet.com/graphics-cards/pny-verto-geforce-7900/4507-8902_7-32065025.html?tag=psum I'm wondering if there are any good upgrades $100 or cheaper. There is one card that looks kind of good, but I am illiterate when it comes to computer specs so I don't know how good the comparison is. It's a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT, the link to it is: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Gaming_Video_Cards/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A1985880&mfgpid=167416&chassisid=8234 How do the two cards compare in performance? And are there any others that would be a good upgrade in that price range? I use a Dell XPS 600 The following is information from My Computer: System: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Computer: Intel (R) Pentium (R) D CPU 3GHz 2.99 GHz, 2GB RAM (I actually have 4 GB of ram, My Computer system information only shows 2 GB while bios show 4) I'm not entirely sure how to find out the power supply, will post that once I know. Good lord.. I will never replace my power supply. It's the base of my desktop and took me a while to detach it enough to read the label, and then about an hour to reattach it to my system. The information I found was: Input: 100-250 V ~ 12.0A MAX 50-60 Hz Output: 650W MAX +12A VDC 17A MAX +12B VDC 17A MAX +12C VDC 17A MAX -12 VDC 0.5A MAX +5 VDC 30A MAX +5 VFP 2A MAX +3.3 VDC 25A MAX I don't know what any of the number meant, so I wrote down everything I saw.
Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop (tech help please)? this laptop is like 3 years old, I have saw some reviews on the 2600 basically saying its a laptop that doesn't sacrifice performance for price. Is this laptop good for doing things like playing games ( not like crysis or cod ) but just flash games and watching videos on youtube on? Dell Inspiron 2600 Processor: Pentium Celeron 1.2GHz Memory: 512MB SRAM - 1 slot Max 512Mb Hard Drive: 60GB Optical device: CDROM Display: 14.1 Inch Active Matrix Display 1024 x 768 Floppy: 1.44MB Floppy Drive Manufacturer P/N: I2600 Modem: 56K Network Card: 10/100 Operating System: No PCMCIA Slots: Two Type II or One Type III Pointing Device: Touch Pad Ports: USB, Serial, Parallel, Mouse, Keyboard, Speaker + Product Includes: Battery, AC Adapter, Power Cord Sound Card: Sigmatel 2700 Video Card: 32MB Intel Extreme Graphics also if you have this laptop could u tell me what you like about and what you dont? kinda like pros and cons list.
External Hard Drive - Help decide which one to buy or not? I've looked into WesternDigital 500gb My Book Essential Ed. (WDH1U5000N) and Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 500gb as both have industry rep and brand name recognition. But as per customer reviews from Amazon, C/NetShopper & Best Buy, both have significant bad reviews in quantity. The WD complaints are repeatedly about drives dying within a year, total losses of data, horrible tech support with fees, no fan thus heat issues, etc. Seagate about the same. Research into external drives as a product has made me conclude they don't have a lot of longevity and can malfunction in some form even when cared for. Aren't they supposed to be as reliable as a PC main drive which goes through more use? What's the reality here? My only need: backup of music/pics/vids. Considering HewlettPackard 1600 Pocket Drive 160gb (laptop/PC). Why? Great reviews & $100 (versus the above drives @ $130 w/ huge GBs). Leaning towards WD. Suggestions, advice or comments for this first time buyer? Thanks! More details: currently need to back up 60 gbs of pics, music and vids, and more stuff later as I add to my library. I don't use any heavy duty programs like video-editing therefore the external drive never needs to be on for extended hours which means no overheating issues. I have Windows XP. External drive needed for desktop and not necessarily laptop. Can you recommend a drive that is: quiet; doesn't overheat; able to be defragged; can easily format from FAT32 to NTFS; durable and longlasting? Laptop drive versus desktop drive: in other words, what are the pros and cons of having a drive with a fan and without a fan? Please respond to any or all of the above as per your experience. Thanks again, folks!

Which is the best reviewing site for latest hardware? I want to know the world best trusted reviewing site! Is Ibuypower.com a good place to buy from? I have heard several mixed reviews about Ibuypower.com and I was wondering if I should buy my next computer from them. It seems that the people who are buying the more high-end tech are the ones having problems, yet I was only looking to buy a lower midrange computer for about $800. It's nothing too complicated, but is it something that you all think they are going to screw up? I know their customer service is horrible, but most computer companies have that same problem. I also was looking at avadirect.com, but it's a bit more pricey than other companies. I have also looked into building my own computer, but I really don't want to mess anything up. One last note, waiting for the product to ship or arrive is not a big deal to me, so shipping is not really a con. Thanks
If this "No Fly Zone" resolution was put in place in 2005, why was it still being discussed in the Dem. Debate If this "No Fly Zone" resolution was put in place in 2005, why was it still being discussed in the Dem. Debates recently in 2007? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Boxer In March 2005 the Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed Boxer's amendment to the Foreign Affairs Reauthorization Bill strongly urging Saudi Arabia to permit women to run for office and vote in all future elections. Boxer is a cosponsor of S. 495, or the Darfur Accountability Act of 2005, which would impose sanctions against perpetrators of crimes against humanity in Darfur. Sanctions under this legislation include imposition of a military no-fly zone in Darfur, a coordinated effort between the U.S. and Sudanese governments to track down and prosecute individuals in Sudan in any way involved with genocide or other war crimes in Darfur, a call for the Sudanese Government to take an active roll in combating Janjaweed forces within its borders, and a policy of sanctions against the Sudanese government, including sanctions that will affect the petroleum sector, and individual members of the Sudanese government whose actions support the crimes of violent militias in Darfur. Khartoum is also where the CIA hunted bin-laden according to the book "Hunting the Jackal" (militarybookclub.com). China's involvement in acquiring oil in areas where it is politically unsavory for the U.S. gives them a strategic advantage in every anti-U.S. country (like Venezuela) in the world. Energy Security (wikipedia.org) becomes of grave concerns as we are 5% of the worlds population, use 25% of the worlds energy and 40% of the worlds petrol products. tim trevathan <trevathantim@yahoo.com> wrote: http://www.gvnews.net/html/Corp/newsfeed.html HOME | ABOUT GVNN | OUR PHILOSOPHY | GVNN IN THE NEWS | REGISTER | CONTACT US HOME | ABOUT GVNN | OUR PHILOSOPHY | GVNN IN THE NEWS | REGISTER | CONTACT US October 25, 2005 Subscribe to GVNN Global News Feed A powerful, real-time news wire delivered directly to subscriber desktops. Op-Ed In Khartoum's Oil Pipelines Flow Blood By Peter Wanbali The Nation KHARTOUM, May 21, 2002 -- Two documents on the Sudan released almost simultaneously last week expose the complexities and contradictions inherent in the search for peace in that country's conflict that has lasted two decades, killed two million people, displaced 4.5 million others and burnt hundreds of billions of dollars. And nowhere is this more dramatic than in the reports' treatment of the role of oil in the war between the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) and its allies, and the Government of Sudan GOS. The first report, Depopulating Sudan's Oil Regions, is written by Diane deGuzman for the European Coalition on Oil in Sudan. It is a searing condemnation of the GOS strategy to strafe civilian populated regions in South Sudan for the express purpose of clearing the regions for oil drilling work to either start or continue. It documents atrocities against the civilians starting from October 2001, when the GOS launched an offensive in the southeast part of Ruweng County, in oil concession Block 2. Although no SPLA troops were on the ground, the report says that the villages between Jukabar and Bal were bombarded from the air, with ground troops moving in to mop up. Many were killed and those lucky to survive now huddle in swampland to the northeast and southeast of the county. Timing too fortuitous to be coincidental Within a month of the clearing up of the region, the Greater Nile Petroleum Operating Company (GNPOC), comprising Talisman Energy, Chinese National Petroleum Corporation, Petronas Carigali and Sudapet, moved a drilling rig into the area. The timing of the raid and the decision by GNPOC was too fortuitous to be coincidental. The report also documents another raid that by mid-February this year had depopulated the northern part of Block 5A, in Western Upper Nile. The two campaigns by the GOS have displaced an estimated 80,000 people from Ruweng County and another 50,000 from the Western Upper Nile, who are now forced to wander in search of food, safety and shelter. Harrowing quotes from men and women who lost loved ones during the raids make for very sober reading, very much in the vein of two earlier reports: The Scorched Earth by Christian Aid in 2000, and Report of an Investigation into Oil Development, Conflict and Displacement in Western Upper Nile, released mid-last year by Georgette Gagnon and John Ryle. The second report released this month was Sen John C. Danforth's memo to the US President. Mr Danforth was appointed Special Envoy for Peace in the Sudan in late 2000 and this is a report on his mission. Several observations stand out, not least his advice that there should be no more new US-led initiatives. Rather, the US should engage more actively bilaterally in the Sudan and that increased support should be offered to existing initiatives like the Kenya-led IGAD peace process and the Egyptian-led Joint Initiative (with Libya). Sen Danforth details four "tests" of will that he subjected the GOS and the SPLA to, whose results were the basis of his guarded optimism. One was demand for a cease-fire and setting up of a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation programme for the devastated Nuba Mountains region; the second was observing days of tranquillity to allow relief agencies work on programmes to eradicate polio, guinea worm and bovine rinderpest. The third was prevention of intentional, wanton attacks (often by government) against innocent civilians and fourth was a proposal to the GOS to strengthen the effectiveness of its own anti-slavery commission. He claims varying degrees of success in these tests. Although Sen Danforth acknowledges that any movement forward must grapple with the thorny issues of self-determination for South Sudan, governance, religion and oil, his analysis of how oil features in the cauldron is perverse. His suggestion that a formula should be worked out for sharing the oil revenue between the GOS and the SPLA is both bizarre and impracticable. Renewed confidence The oil revenue, about $2 million every day, has given GOS renewed confidence and apart from enabling it increase its fighting efficiency, will soon become a significant cause for the war. For the process of peace to move forward - even with renewed vigour from the US and a boost to the sub-regional initiatives - the oil booty must be made a non-issue in the process. Companies like the GNPOC consortium must be prevailed upon to exercise some moral influence on the government and stop pretending that they do not see or care about what their money is financing in the Sudan. Countries like Kenya should also rethink the ridiculous posturing they are involved in - on the one hand acting as concerned mediators and peace-makers while on the other hand they are key customers buying the oil and financing the war. Ultimately, UN sanctions would be considered against all parties involved even if such penalties have not been great successes in the past. This clearly, is a hard number to push when there is so little moral firepower left for the US to expend - see what it did with Nigeria and Angola even at the height of human rights atrocities in those countries. These two reports do not give cause for hope that south Sudan's long walk out of the swamps and depths of despair it has been forced into will be ending any time soon. © The Nation, 2002. I Have About $11k For a Home Theater.... What Should I Get? Ok all you experts, title says it all. This is my tentative system so far... Any other options, upgrades or thoughts/comments are appreciated. By the way, I want to keep the cost no more than $500 more than what I'm looking at. So for the TV I'm going with the 60" Pioneer Elite Kuro Pro-151. Blu-Ray/DVD player...Sony PS3. Up front sound comes from a pair of Definitive Technology Mythos One and a Mythos Nine in for the center. The rears will be a pair of Mythos gem XLs. Lows will be handled by a SVS PB-13 Ultra. They system's brain and power will come from a Yamaha RX-V3900. OK so what do you guys think? I've seen the TV in action and it is ridiculous. They had it and the Panasonic 65in plasma basically next to each other and I think the Pioneer looked slightly better esp in the blacks (they were both playing The Dark Knight on Blu-ray). I watch alot of action and sports so I'm 99.5% sure I'm gonna go with a plasma over an LCD, even with the newer 240Hz models coming out. I also heard a pair of smaller Definitive Tech Mythos towers, and was blown away. One of my friends has an older model of the PB-13 ultra from a company called SVS which I had never heard of and it was thunderous so I'm thinking this thing should be WICKED. Couple of my other boy's have PS3s, and from what I can gather, they are better than just about any stand alone Blu-ray player out there AND it has the little feature which allows you to play games...can't go wrong with that right? I haven't heard the Yamaha receiver, but my pops has an older HT model and it works great.. All the reviews have been very favorable as well. Ok guys Help me out. Here are a few manufacture links (everyone knows about the PS3) http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/HomeEntertainment/PlasmaTVs+Monitors/EliteTVs/PRO-151FD http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-pb13ultra.cfm http://www.definitivetech.com/products/products.aspx?path=Speakers%20By%20Series|Mythos%20Series&productid=Mythos%20One http://www.definitivetech.com/products/products.aspx?path=Speakers%20By%20Series|Mythos%20Series&productid=Mythos%20Nine http://www.definitivetech.com/products/products.aspx?path=Speakers%20By%20Series|Mythos%20Series&productid=Mythos%20Gem%20XL http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=5016803 PS---> Gloss black for everything of course Thanks guys.. keep the suggestions coming. I figured the hardest ie, the most subjective part would be the speakers. I'm definitely gonna try to hear some more. There are alot of high quality loudspeakers from companies I've never even heard of, let alone "heard" them. I was definitely looking at the Pioneer SC-07 as its Class D amp and new ICE power attracted me. I was very detracted however to learn that a receiver at this price point offers no HDMI video processing, which will be necessary for cable/satellite broadcasts. Managers think I am working slow? I joined a tech company about 4 months ago and have been involved in a project. This project has been much delayed (more than an year) and has been put as the highest priority. I am the only one working on it. Also this is a one of a kind thing because no one in this team has done a project of this category. In the last 2.5 months since I started work on it, I have completed the requirement analysis and design and produced formal design docs (about 90 pages) and got them reviewed. There were a lot of issues of requirements not being clear or people pushing their own view points in the design, or even overriding me just because I am a junior. I have highlighted as well as solved all problems related to the project. For me, I have done a formidable task. Now, after the tech specs have been finalized, I was happy and visited my manager. I was hinted that the time I took was very long and "none of the project ever have taken so long to design". After this even other managers (all managers are responsible for all projects) seem to hint the same. I can make out that they think I was slow. The primary reason for this is because, making design docs is not really considered a work product in our company. But looking at the complexity of this project, I found it really necessary to document stuff. But now I feel heartbroken, to the extent that I have started doubting myself and my ability. What should I do?
